The Heritage Backpack ($60)

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The Heritage by Herschel Supply sports a classic backpack design and features an integrated laptop sleeve that can hold laptops up to 15 inches, a zippered front pocket, and a decently sized main compartment. It doesn't have as many bells and whistles as the other backpacks on this list, but the Heritage excels in mixing fashion with function in an understated way—or overstated depending on which of the 30+ colors you choose from.

The Ramble Pack ($89)

Need a little more than the Heritage has to offer? Timbuk2’s Ramble Pack might be what you’re looking for. Its main compartment features an internal slip pocket that can fit up to a 15-inch MacBook, as well as organizers for pens, phones, and other small items. On the front of the backpack, you’ll find one large zippered pocket, one smaller zippered pocket, and a third, velcro-closure pocket. Oh, and not one, but two side pockets for water bottles, U-locks, or anything else you can fit there. This backpack is perfect for both day trips and school days, offering plenty of options to store your battery packs and other tech goodies.

The Sanction backpack ($205)

Now we’re getting serious. The Sanction is San Francisco-based Mission Workshop’s bestseller, and for good reason. This weatherproof backpack features a zippered pocket in the main compartment for your laptop (up to 15 inches), four internal weatherproof pockets, and one external pocket—also weatherproof. Mission Workshop also offer plenty of add ons and accessories to make this bag perfect for your needs.

ICON Backpack ($199.95)

The Incase ICON backpack possibly the best bang-for-your-buck backpack on this list in terms of internal space and organization options. Beyond the dedicated zippered section for a laptop, the main compartment is roomy enough to fit your everyday essentials, while a third compartment is packed with organizer pockets for pens and smaller tech accessories. There’s a dedicated side-pocket for an iPad or other tablet, as well as a hip-side pocket with an integrated cable port. In a nutshell, if you’re into organization, this backpack has pockets for everything you could need for a day out. It even has pockets in pockets. Pocket-ception?

Incase also offer Slim and Lite variations of this pack. Fewer pockets, but just as functional.

Daypack ($80)

I’m a big fan of backpacks that don’t scream, “I’m full of expensive things!” and Booq’s Daypack fits the bill nicely.

Overall, this is a simple bag with just a large main compartment, a zippered pocket up front, and two expandable side pockets. The top-opening main compartment has a dedicated laptop pocket that can fit up to a 15.6-inch laptop, while the inside of the front flap features an open-top mesh pocket for your smaller items. This backpack will blend in perfectly whether it’s at work, school, or both.
