Juggernaut: The Revenge Of Sovering is the newest, noteworthy turn-based RPG to hit the App store. This game debuted last week to rave reviews and has become an instant hit, with it's stunning graphics, beautifully illustrated cut-scenes, and innovative twists on the turn-based gaming genre.

 

I've dedicated several articles (latest one HERE) to converting videos into MP4 (M4V / MOV) files so that they can be played back by the H.264 decoder of even older-generation iDevices. In the current one, I elaborate on how how you can play the output files with the built-in, stock Videos application. This article also belong to my Multimedia article series, in which I plan to publish a “Streaming multimedia over your local Wi-Fi” in the next few days and, then, finally, the real Multimedia bible.

iMore has posted a summary of an interview with Tony Fadell, who was involved in the design of the iPod and the iPhone, in which he says that an early prototype of the iPhone included a hardware keyboard. In fact, he favored this approach. But when Steve Jobs saw a prototype of scrolling on a multitouch screen, he knew that was the direction that Apple wanted to go in. And the rest is history. Interestingly, Fadell eventually joined Palm and realized his vision of a phone that combines touch and a hardware keyboard in the Palm Pre.

In the last few days, I've participated in several discussion threads in the Phone Cameras / Tablets & Apps forum of DPReview. (See for example THIS, THIS and THIS). In order not to have to repeat the same facts again and again in future discussions, I've decided to dedicate a complete article to the question of using the iPad as a photo frame.

(Note that this article, as with most of my stuff, shows you not only how the camera can be reconfigured, but also shows you - how you can play back a YouTube video frame-by-frame; - how you can create and upload packages to your Cydia [an alternative to Apple's AppStore] repository and, last but definitely not least, gives you a full source-level explanation of the entire app that I've written to quickly switch between the different iPhone4 camera configurations. No one has released anything similar for the iPhone 4 or the iPhone 3GS [for which I'll also release a very similar utility in a few days] before!)

Thinner and lighter: that's the general direction of Apple's gizmos. And rumors are swirling that Apple will use technologies in the iPhone 5 that will allow it to be even more svelte. A couple days ago the rumor was the Apple would use a new material called Liquidmetal for the casing on the back. This alloy offers great durability yet is light like plastic. And now the rumor today, via DigiTimes and reported on AppleInsider, is that Apple may use in-cell touch displays.

I have a second-generation Apple TV set-top box, and really enjoy using AirPlay to stream movies from my iPad to my 42-inch HDTV. It's fun how simple it is. If you have an iOS device and Apple TV on the same WiFi network, you simply start playing a video and tap a button that gives you the option of playing the movie on your TV instead of your iPad. If you need to go out and want to continue watching the movie, you simply toggle back to the iPad and continue watching.

I have exercised consistently for more than 20 years, especially with weights. One thing I've learned is that if you want to get results and keep them, you need to adopt and stick to a structured plan. A personal trainer is really the best way to get on the right track and stay there, but not everyone has access to that kind of resource (never had one, myself). A motivated and knowledgeable training partner is nearly as good, if not better in some cases. With a plan and a partner, now all you need is a way to journal and track your workouts. If you have an iPhone or iPod touch, Pushing Weight makes it pretty simple to plan and keep track of your pump!

The dream is a children's story about the main character named Ahmad and his adventure.  The book can be either read by kids, or the app will read it to the children making it a fun app for kids from about age two through twelve.  In addition to the story this app includes a 'fact find' section where you can tap on highlighted words while reading the story to learn some fun facts such as what different words mean.  There is also a 'happy bazzar' which is a place to find related apps quickly and easily.  There are several related apps to choose from and with a quick tap you'll be taken right to the app store. 

I’ve played quite a number of time management games over the course of my reviews, and generally I find that the more hectic they are the more fun they tend to be.  Of course the chaos needs to be organized, but the key is that there has to be a lot to do.  Occasionally, though, I just want to have a nice, relaxing time, and Streetfood Tycoon fills that bill quite nicely.  At times it almost feels more like an arcade game than a time management sim, but lest you forget you can always check all the stats to bring you back to reality.  The important thing is that the game is fun, and I have become rather addicted to the game play and atmosphere.

Contacts Duster Pro is one of those must have apps for anyone who uses their device to keep track of the information about their friends and family.  As just about anyone knows who has had their phone for any length of time it is very simple to let all your contacts get out of date and unorganized because people today are constantly moving, changing jobs and even getting new phone numbers.  This app will help you organize everything to make them easy to find and use any time you want.

With the large success of mob boss games found on the market; many developers are tapping into its popularity to create the newest one.  This includes Big Gun; a mafia style game that offers deadly missions, amazing parties, loud music, and the opportunity to run an entire criminal gang.  Of course; you are not automatically the boss when you first begin.  As with any mob game; you have to work up to being the head honcho and this particular game will have you working hard. 

Bird Hunting Mania! HD is one of the newest and addictive games to hit the App store.  It is filled with bright colors, enticing antics, and challenges that has made it very exciting to play.  At first it might not seem like much; but once you begin to hunt, you'll soon notice how strategic it becomes.  The concept is simple; catch as many exotic birds as you can to bring back to Earth in order to start a colony.  You are going to save the world from bird extinction; so get ready to hunt!

If you've been looking for a game that will keep the kids occupied; then Bam! Jr. is what you have been looking for.  This particular game is fast paced, practicing colors, and really stimulates the brain with optical illusions.  In other words, you have to be pretty quick to win this game.  So, what is the overall object?

I've just returned to my hotel room from the first day of MWC so that I can get ready for the MobileFocus event in the evening. I couldn't wait with sharing my experiences with you on the spot. Having little free time, however, let's start with the most two important pieces of news: the Nokia PureView 808 (a phone with a freaking good camera) and the Samsung Note 10.1 (a really decent tablet). I had some quality hands-on time with both models. Let's start with the former.

There are many different emoticon apps that are available, but AniEmoticons offers a vast selection of emoticons with a variety of features.  This particular app is perfect for using picture icons to make your emails and text messages more entertaining to read.  In fact, there are so many different options on this app that you can literally type a full message without using any words! 

iPhone vs. Brownie Hawkeye

The Brownie Hawkeye reminds me of the current iPhone. Why? Here are some comparisons:

1. Both are (or were) ennormously popular.

2. They both are known for portability. Although you couldn't keep a Brownie in your pocket it could be easily carried around...especially if you compare it to the view cameras that it replaced.

3. They are both very simple to use. You took a picture with a Brownie by looking down into the finder and clicking a button.

4. They both became the de facto leader in the field. Apple dominates just as Kodak did.

5. Simplicity defines both cameras.

The Vote Me app is a new political game where you are ‘competing’ against all the other users of this app to get as many votes as possible, and eventually become the first ‘social president’.  You run your social presidential campaign on any platform you’d like to attempt to get votes.  Whether you use it to help promote awareness of local causes, natural concerns or just for fun, you can add in any issues you want to help get attention to yourself.
