Previously, we covered creating keyboard shortcuts to help you quickly type commonly used phrases. Did you know you can also create shortcuts for emoji characters (those cute emoticons that go way beyond your average smiley face)? Every time you want to copy text or data from a website or app to literally anywhere else, your iPhone will ask, "'App' would like to paste from 'App.' Do you want to allow this?" While keeping my info secure is always nice, I can't be the only one wondering if this is really necessary.

One fun new feature that debuted with iOS 17 is the highly requested interactive widgets. In previous iterations of iOS, the widgets displayed bits of info or data. Now, with iOS 17, you can actually use the widgets as if they are mini versions of the app! This includes things like checking off reminders on your to-do list, turning your lights on and off via the Home widget, or pressing play or pause on your Apple Music. Here's how it works!

iOS 17 brought some cool new features to the FaceTime app that users have been asking for for a long time. One of those features is FaceTime's new video voicemail option. The way it works is that when the person you're FaceTiming misses or declines your call, you can leave a video message that they will receive in the FaceTime app. Here's how!
If you've recently changed the iPhone passcode, you can set your iPhone to temporarily use the old passcode when you forget the new passcode on iPhone. This is a great way to ensure you don't get locked out of your phone before you've gotten in the habit of remembering the new passcode. In order for this option to show up, you will need to have recently changed the passcode, and you will need to have updated to iOS 17.

Shared Photo Libraries are an interesting new feature in iOS 16 (available currently as beta software and as shipping software starting in September), but you can only join one at a time. If you've joined one and want to leave it so you can join or create another one, finding where to do so can be a little confusing. Whether you joined a Shared Library by accident, need to start your own, or just aren't finding the feature useful, we'll show you how to easily leave or delete a Shared Photo Library.

When is the next iOS update? Historically, Apple announces a new iOS each year at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, releases a developer beta version immediately after, a public beta a few weeks after that, and then releases the full version in the fall. There is no reason to expect Apple to break the tradition this year. Another guess we can feel comfortable making is what it will be called: iOS 18. What else do we know about the next iOS update? Let's go over what we can expect, including which iPhones will be compatible with iOS 18 and what cool features may be coming our way.
