Your passport can now be added to your Apple Wallet, as long as you are a US citizen. Doing this is a great way to have a backup of your ID. Please keep in mind that this is a new feature and you won’t be able to use your digital passport everywhere, so unless you confirm that it’s enough, bring your physical passport along just in case.

As long as you have a US passport, you can now have an electronic passport by adding it to your Apple Wallet. Having an Apple Wallet passport is a great way to have a backup virtual ID. To protect everyone’s data, Apple keeps sensitive parts of the screenshot blank, so when you go through this process, your phone will look a little different.
- Open the Wallet app on your iPhone.

- Tap the plus icon.

- Select Driver’s License and ID Cards.

- At the very top of the list under’ United States’, tap on Digital ID.

- If you have an Apple Watch, you’ll have an option of adding your passport to your phone and watch. If you only want it on your iPhone, select Add to iPhone Only. Since I want it on both devices, I’m selecting Add to iPhone and Apple Watch.

- Follow the on-screen directions to take a photo of your passport and scan your chip.

- Once your passport is fully scanned, tap Continue.

- Once your Live Photo is captured, tap Continue. Or tap Retake if you want to take a new/better one.

- Next, you may need to provide additional verification. Tap Continue.

- You’ll have to keep your phone still and do whatever your phone instructs you to do after you tap Get Started.

- This works best if you lean your phone against something or use a tripod, but it is possible to do while holding your phone. If you move too much, you will see “Movement captures. Let’s try another.” or “Your movement was not captured. For your security, you’ll need to start again.” You’ll have to tap Start Again.

- Once it works, you might have to go through several different motions, such as "close your eyes until your iPhone vibrates," "open your mouth until your iPhone vibrates," "move your head to your left until your iPhone vibrates."

- Eventually, you will get to a page that lets you Review Your Info. If everything seems okay, tap Continue. Face ID will be used to, once again, confirm your identity.

- You will be notified that it will take some time for the verification to process. Tap Continue.

- You’ll have the option of helping Apple improve their ID verification process, you can select Don’t Share if you don’t want to. I selected Share Anonymously and tapped Continue.

- You will now see Verification in Progress under your Digital ID in your Apple Wallet.

- In a few minutes, hours, or days, you’ll get an email that your Digital ID is ready to use.

- The email includes a link that can tell you more about how to present your Digital ID. Make sure to read it so you understand how everything works.

- You will now be able to see your Digital ID in your Apple Wallet. The card won’t show any sensitive information unless you tap the i icon.

- Here you can tap Physical Passport Information and once Face ID verifies that you are you, you will be able to see your full name, date of birth, age, sex, ID Number, expiry date, and nationality.
