Review: Premium Wireless Headphones with Magnetic Charging Stand

I'm cautious about reviewing Indiegogo projects because they might not materialize; but in this case, the campaign has already been funded successfully, and the company sent me a working version of the Mu6 Smart Noise Canceling Headphones (starting at $189).

I really liked the use of premium materials like psuedo leather earcups and a soft rubber padding on the headband. I also prefer over-ear headphones for longterm use, and these have nice oblong speaker cups that fully surround my ears. Combined with the active noise cancellation, you can hear just the music.

What really sets the Mu6 apart is the optional charging stand that makes clever use of magnets to hold the headphones in place while charging. They actually hang from the strong magnets and it's a cool effect. Just keep in mind that the magnets work in one direction, so you have to pay attention when you put it in place.

Mu6

The ear cups rotate flat, but the Mu6 headphones do not fully collapse for travel. You can also charge the headphones directly using the included USB-C cable. These features, especially with the charging stand and comfortable design make it ideal for extended desktop use. But the long battery life also helps when you're away from power.

Pros

  • Premium materials
  • Nice oblong speaker cups to surround ear
  • Optional charging stand uses magnets
  • Direct USB-C charging with cable included
  • Ideal for desktop use
  • 24 to 35 hours of battery life
  • Touch gesture control

Cons

  • Magnet in for charging stand works one way
  • Charging stand uses microUSB not USB-C
  • Ear cups rotate flat but headphones do not collapse for travel

Final Verdict

The Mu6 Smart Noise Canceling Headphones are a great set of headphones for daily longterm use at your desktop, especially if you get the optional charging stand.
