Your Apple Watch likely knows you better than you know yourself. Even while you sleep, it is tracking your heart rate, breathing patterns, and so much more. A lot of this data could be useful for your doctor, and there's an easy way you can help them access it so you can get the best medical care possible.
Open Your Heart (Metrics) to Your Doctor
Your heart rate is an important health metric that can tell your doctor a lot about your overall well-being. Apple makes it super easy to share all your Health app data with your doctor: it can be done in just a few steps via the Health app on your iPhone. For these steps to work, your doctor’s clinic needs to allow this feature. But if your doctor doesn't participate, you can still export your health data, convert it into an Excel sheet, and have it printed out or emailed to your doctor, so they can reference it.
Your doctor will likely be most interested in your heart rate: at rest, how it reacts to certain activities, its recovery rate, and what it is like when you sleep. Personally, I've gone on meds that have heart rate-related side effects, and it was amazing to be able to see it reflected on my watch. It also showed me that even though my resting heart rate had risen, it wasn't above safe levels.
Checking on Vitals
With so many different health metrics to track, it can get a little overwhelming. That's why Apple created the Vitals app, which lets you keep track of your health data in one convenient app that can compare your current vitals with the previous week. This can be used to measure fitness progress or help predict when you are under the weather and need to take it easy.
Track Your Meds & More
Your watch can help you keep track of your medications. You can enter your dosage and set reminders to make sure you are on top of things. In addition to being able to mark a medication as "taken" so that you don't forget and take it again, you can also record any notes, including any side effects that you might want to share with your doctor at your next check-up.
Other Trackable Health Metrics
Don't forget that you can also track your moods and emotions, check your ECG, and keep your Medical ID up to date on your watch. The more data you provide to your doctor, the better they can help you, so make sure you are using your Apple Watch to its full extent and let your doctor know that you can share data with them if needed.
Don't Forget About Cycle Tracking
Although many people are choosing to keep this information offline for privacy reasons, don't forget that the Health app can help you track your menstrual cycle, which is something that doctors love to ask about. Not only can you easily track the beginning, the end, and anything unusual, but if you wear your Apple Watch at night, it will also track your change in temperature, which is yet another important health metric.
