Tivoo-Max: The Cute Bluetooth Speaker with a Custom Pixel Display Goes Big

Recently, I had the opportunity to review the Tivoo from Divoom and I really liked it. My only request was for a larger version. I love it when a plan comes together! Divoom sent me the Tivoo Max ($99), which is available as an Indiegogo campaign currently. The Max is a larger version that also enhances audio with 20 watt stereo speakers and a 20 watt active subwoofer.

Tivoo Max

As with the smaller model, it sports a retro design with rounded edges and cute little feet. It looks like an old black and white TV I used to have, minus the rabbit ears! Divoom moved the dials off to the side, so head-on, you see just a rounded rectangle (like a Mac mini from above) plus the silver angled feet. It's adorable, even when it's turned off. But when you turn it on, in addition to audio from Bluetooth, the auxiliary port, or a microSD card, you can leverage the custom pixel display.

You can use the free companion app to design images, including animations, for the 16 x 16 customizable display, just like with its little brother. Right now, it's only sold in black or white, whereas the smaller model is sold in those colors plus blue, red, pink, or green. And this is a nitpick, but I would like to see a USB-C port and let it charge other devices, using the built-in 8,000 mAh battery.

Pros

  • Well-designed, well-built speaker
  • 16 x 16 customizable display
  • Same great app as little brother
  • Retro styling
  • SD card and aux input in addition to Bluetooth
  • Only $40 more than the small version
  • 8,000 mAh battery life for up to 10 hours

Cons

  • Fewer color choices (white or black) than junior version
  • microUSB cable not USB-C

Final Verdict

The Tivoo Max from Divoom improves on its little brother and for only a few dollars more, via Indiegogo.
