There are a lot of Apple Watch rumors out there, some more credible than others. I'll share the most reliable rumors with you, and explain why I think they are likely to be true, plus I'll throw in some of the crazier ones, because it's fun to dream big!
New Apple Watch Chips
Apple is known to upgrade Apple Watch chips every three years, and since it hasn't happened in the past two years, it will likely happen in September 2026! New chips mean improved power efficiency so that your watch can do more and be faster without sacrificing battery life!
Touch ID Unlock Button
We carry a lot of sensitive information on our watch, but using a passcode can be tedious, plus you never know who's looking over your shoulder. The rumored Touch ID would add a layer of security to your favorite wearable! Unfortunately, this is one of the more far-fetched rumors because it could be a huge drain on battery life. The rumor started because Apple had applied for an Apple Watch Touch ID patent, which is commonly done for new tech, even if it doesn't end up being used. Since the Apple leakers with the best track records haven't mentioned this in their latest reports, I don't believe we'll be getting it this year, if ever.
Redesigned Apple Watch Ultra 4
Since the first Apple Watch Ultra model came out in 2022, it has been a popular option for the more extreme Apple-heads. If you hold up the three Ultra models side-by-side, you won't notice much of a difference, but that might not be the case with the Ultra 4. Geeky Gadgets reported that the Apple Watch Ultra 4 will have a thinner body while sporting a larger display, which would be great, as long as it didn't affect the battery life.
Blood Glucose Monitoring
Apple Watch users have always wanted their watch to be able to monitor their blood glucose levels, and every year there's a rumor that it might be coming. According to some, having a non-invasive blood glucose monitoring device is physically impossible. However, since Apple figured out how to detect hypertension with the watchOS 26 release, who knows what breakthrough they'll make next?
Twice As Many Sensors
During the 2026 WWDC keynote event, Apple announced lots of new features that are coming to Apple devices. There was talk of perimenopause and menopause tracking as well as vastly improved AI capabilities. DigiTimes reported that we will be getting more sensors so that our watches can track even more health metrics. Potentially even blood glucose levels? We'll find out this fall!
