How to Take a Picture or Video Using Siri

Many people wonder, can you make Siri take a picture on your iPhone? The answer is yes! Siri makes it easy to take different kinds of photos and videos. This can save you time and make it easier to navigate your Camera app if your hands are full.

How to Take a Selfie with Siri

  1. Say, 'Hey Siri' to activate Siri. You can also hold the Home button or Side button to activate Siri, depending on your iPhone model.

  2. Say, “Hey Siri, take a selfie.”
  3. Siri will open the Camera app on your iPhone in photo mode on your front-facing camera. 
  4. Tap the shutter button to take the photo. You can also use either one of the volume buttons on the side of your phone.

Siri will only be able to open the camera in the requested mode; you will still have to tap the shutter button to actually take the photo.

Siri Commands for Different Types of Photos & Videos

You may be asking yourself, “how do I use Siri to record video?” or, “can you ask Siri to take a selfie?” Both of these are possible, along with many other types of photos and videos. Use the following Siri commands to open the Camera app in the appropriate mode:

Back-Facing Camera

  • Standard photo mode: “Hey Siri, take a photo.”
  • Panorama: “Hey Siri, take a panorama.”
  • Regular portrait: “Hey Siri, take a portrait photo.”
  • Standard video: “Hey Siri, take a video.”
  • Slow-motion video: “Hey Siri, take a Slo-mo.”
  • Timelapse video: “Hey Siri, take a timelapse.”

Front-Facing Camera

  • Standard selfie photo: “Hey Siri, take a selfie.”
  • Selfie portrait: “Hey Siri, take a portrait selfie.”
  • Selfie video: “Hey Siri, take a selfie video.”
  • Selfie slow-motion video: “Hey Siri, take a Slo-mo selfie.”
  • Selfie timelapse video: “Hey Siri, take a timelapse selfie.”

You can take different types of photos and videos with Siri, but keep in mind that it's not possible to do this completely hands-free; you will still have to use the shutter button. However, Siri can open your iPhone's Camera app to the photo mode you request, which can save you time and keep you from juggling too many things if your hands are full!
