How to Change Credit Cards on App Store for Family Sharing
The good news is that changing your primary payment method on an iPhone is actually the same whether you are managing a Family Sharing plan or not. For more tips on managing your purchases, sign up for our free Tip of the Day newsletter. Now, let's cover how to change your credit card on the App Store.
- Open the App Store app.
- Tap your profile icon in the upper-right corner.
- Tap your account.
- Tap Manage Payments.
- Tap Edit if you want to remove a payment method or change which card is the primary payment method.
- If you want to remove a payment method, tap the minus icon.
- Tap Remove to delete the payment method.
- The top card shown on the list is your primary payment method. To change this, tap and drag the Move Order icon to move another card to the top.
- Tap Done to save your changes.
- If you want to add an additional payment method, tap Add Payment Method.
- On this screen, you can choose to add a new Credit/Debit Card or use PayPal for App Store purchases.
- If you tap Credit/Debit Card, you’ll need to enter your card’s information and select a billing address. Tap Done to save the card to your account.
Once you’ve added a new card, be sure to move it to the top of the list if you want the App Store to use it as the primary payment method. The steps above can be followed whether you are managing a Family Sharing plan or if you’re not using Family Sharing at all. For Family Sharing plans, you will not be able to make changes if you are only a member of a family but not the organizer. Instead, the designated organizer will need to be the one to switch the payment methods.
