How to Update to iPadOS 14

If you don't see the update as available right away once Apple has announced its release on September 16, give it a few days. By then, the software update should be rolled out to all users.

To update your iPad to Apple's latest operating system:

  1. Back up your device to iCloud or iTunes.
  2. Plug your device into power and make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi. 
  3. Open the Settings app.

  5. Select Software Update.

  6. Tap Install, then Install Now; you may need to enter your passcode.

  7. This process will take a few minutes.​
  8. You may need to agree to the Terms and Conditions.
  9. Your tablet will power down. Then it will power back up and install.
  10. Once your Lock screen comes back up, unlock your iPad.
  11. Follow any on-screen directions to complete the update.
