This Free Calendar App is a Productivity Game-Changer
(Sponsored Post) By Olena Kagui on Tue, 05/17/2022
Apple is pretty good about updating its products, but it seems to have forgotten about the Calendar app and its many downsides. The makers of Informant 5, on the other hand, do not forget to regularly improve their app based on user experience and feedback. The latest updates to this calendar and task-management app are a productivity game-changer.
nPlayer Updated - Excellent Multimedia Player Just Got Better
By Werner Ruotsalainen
I've dedicated several articles (last one HERE) to nPlayer, an excellent multimedia player with unique multi-subtitle capabilities (AppStore link; $2.99 for Universal version).
Urban Dictionary defines epic fail as, "Complete and total failure when success should have been reasonably easy to attain." So I find it ironic that Epic Games' sure-fire hit, Infinity Blade: Dungeons has been beset with delay after delay. After all, it's not often one of the most successful iOS game franchises has such an eagerly-anticipated game waiting in the wings that they just can't seem to get to market. Now, we have word from Epic Games we shouldn't hold our breath for the release of what certainly looked like another great chapter in the Infinity Blade saga.
If you want to support a company with the most forward-thinking, sustainable, and Eco-friendly business practices in the audio equipment industry, then I have great news for you! Likewise, if investing in audio gear that’s well made, has a level of quality that comes from attention to little details, and reflects a passion for accurate sound reproduction, then look no further. Let me introduce you to The House of Marley's Rise Up headphones, available now in the Apple Store.
In my mind, it's not a given that the next iPad mini will have a retina display, but certainly the rumor persists. And today a Chinese website purports to have all the juice on the forthcoming device. According to Tapscape, it will likely be called "iPad mini with retina display." The screen resolution will be 2048x1536 pixels, giving it a 324ppi pixel density. The resolution is rumored to be the same as the current fourth-generation iPad.
Teaching Art by Turning the iPad into a Virtual Studio
By Daniel Rasmus
From the ease of collecting often-broken colored pencils, to cleaning up after a room of young artists who seemingly bathed in tempera, art, unlike literature or history, creates rather messy educational challenges. It is, however, extremely important for learners to engage in visceral exercises that bring the texture of media to hands, and its odor to nostrils.
The annual Macworld/iWorld trade show is underway in San Francisco, and Macworld magazine already has named its Best of Show winners. They include some gotta-see gadgets for the iPad and iPhone, such as an iPad robot, an iPad case that doubles as a speaker, and a 1TB external hard drive for the iPhone and iPad.
GPS for the Soul: Huffington Post Unveils Tranquility in an App
By Donna Schill
Our iPhones often remind us of our obligations: upcoming meetings, dentist appointments, and credit card bills to pay. While helpful, wouldn’t it be nice if it also reminded us to take some time to enjoy and feel good?
Folks, your task is clear: make the most epic Apple parody in the universe, and get featured in iPhone Life magazine! We’re calling on you, the bursting creative genius, to create a fake video announcement from Apple, post it on YouTube, and send it to us. Cold Weather Apps: For Freezing Your Tookus Off
By Adam Harvey
We’re in the dead of it now, iPhone Life-ers! It’s winter and it’s colder than a polar bear’s nose out there!
I was walking to my car the other day, and my eyes literally iced over! I thought I might be blinded for life! I’m wearing ski goggles all the time from now on.

TUTORIAL: automatically adding video metadata to your videos using the excellent, free(!) Subler
By Werner Ruotsalainen
In my Video Metadata bible & Roundup, I've already mentioned Subler is capable of manually editing / adding video metadata. After having been asked (thread with numerous, advice-packed posts from me) about doing the same with Subler, I've decided to publish a writeup on doing the same automatically. After all, online video metadata libraries like themoviedb.org have excellent metadata for a lot of flicks.
AVPlayer(HD) & 1080p MKV users on older-than-two-year iDevices, attention!
By Werner Ruotsalainen
Answering a question (link with more info & comparisons to OPlayer) regarding AVPlayer running on the iPhone 4 (released in Summer 2010), I've quickly tested the MKV playback in the player on my 4th-generation iPad touch (released in Autumn 2010) to find out whether the question is right. (After all, AVPlayer(HD) is probably THE most recommended generic video player, particularly for MKV playback.)

New app: Simple, elegant to-do list for iPhone
By Jim Karpen
I've never found task apps that useful, and have generally resorted to the old technology: paper. But Finish for iPhone ($0.99), a new app out today, has changed that. It's a simple, yet very useful and handy to-do list for the iPhone. (No iPad version yet.) It has several features I like: time frames, automatically ordering your tasks according to time frame, and Focus Mode, which shows the most immediate tasks in each of the time frames.
Review: Tesla's Electric Mist by iCoolGeeks
By Eric Pankoke
When it came to PC gaming I think adventure games were what I grew up on, and I’m happy to see more developers bringing this great genre of game play to the iOS platform. In late November of 2012 we were treated to a cool time travelling piece called Tesla’s Electric Mist, and since I’m now getting back into it to try and finish it up I thought I’d share my experiences with the game. There’s no question that the developer has a deep fondness for this style of game play, and there are plenty of puzzles to solve and mini-games to conquer. I think it would have been nice to have a little golf cart with all the walking I had to do, though.

iHome gets all Bluetooth'ed up at CES!
By Nate Adcock
iHome had great products on display this year at CES. Too many to cover in one shot really, but will do my level best to round up the ones that shine. Many won't be released until later this year (some maybe not at all). I skipped most of the AirPlay capable models, as we have covered several on our blogs already. They were showing a new wireless speaker that is basically the iW3 (see my review here), but with Bluetooth, which is the better option in my opinion, unless you really must rely on AirPlay. Another interesting product is a speaker accessory that turns any analog audio player into a bluetooth-capable stereo, and an on-ear BT headphone that folds up and fits in your pocket (almost). Much more iHome CES gear coverage follows...
