How to Set a Timer on the Apple Watch

* This post is part of iPhone Life's Tip of the Day newsletter. . *

Did you know you can use your Apple Watch as a timer? Since the Apple Watch is on my wrist, I'm less likely to ignore the the timer going off than if I were using my iPhone, or drop my Apple Watch if I'm using the timer while cooking with slippery ingredients or washing dishes. For less fumbling and more punctual time management, try using the Timer app on your Apple Watch.

Here's how to set a timer on your Apple Watch:

  • Open the Timer app. There are preset timers you can select ranging from one minute to two hours.
  • Tap on one of the preset timers to use it.

  • To create a new timer instead of using a preset timer, scroll down and select Custom.
  • Tap on the minute, hour, or seconds clock wheels and scroll with your finger to adjust them to the time you want.
  • You can also tap a clock wheel and use the Digital Crown to scroll to the desired time.

  • With your preferred time set, tap Start.
  • You can press Reset to go back to the clock wheels and readjust the time.

  • Tap Pause if you want to stop the timer and Resume to begin where the timer left off.

  • When the timer is done, your Apple Watch may ring and vibrate.
  • Select either Stop or Repeat.

  • The next time you open the Timer app, the timers you custom set and used will appear under Recents above the Custom button.

And that's how you use the Timer for Apple Watch!
