How to Add a Photo to a Contact in the iPhone Contacts App

Sometimes I'll misread the name of someone calling me, and having a photo of the person pop up with their name on my iPhone screen has cut down on the confusion. Here's how to add a photo to a contact. Trust me, it's a great feature to use so you don't talk to your cousin Ellie thinking she's your coworker Elaine.

  • Open the Contacts app.
  • Or navigate to the Contacts tab in the Phone app.
  • Select a contact.
  • Tap Edit in the upper right corner.
  • Tap the Add Photo option next to the name.
  • Select Choose Photo to use a picture that's saved to your Photos.
  • Select Take Photo to take a photo using your device's camera.
  • For either option, you'll be able to Move and Scale the photo to fit. Tap Choose, or Use Photo, to finish.
  • Tap Done to save changes.

By adding a photo to your contacts, you'll be able to 'see' who's calling you.
