Which iPhones Are Compatible with iOS 13? Can Your iPad & Apple Watch Run iPadOS & watchOS 6?

Apple has finally unveiled its new iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and Pro Max, Apple Watch Series 5, and even a new seventh-generation iPad. But whether or not you’re planning to upgrade to any of the new devices Apple just announced, you’ll still want to update most of your existing Apple devices and start enjoying all the newest features of iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS as soon as possible. Here’s when you can expect to start updating the software on your Apple devices and which iPhones are compatible with iOS 13 and which Apple Watches, and iPads can run the watchOS 6 and iPadOS.

iOS 13

Available September 19

Are you ready for Dark Mode, Sign in with Apple, better sharing features in the Notes and Reminders app, and all the other cool new iOS 13 features? Apple will make its latest version of iOS available for download on Thursday, September 9, with more features coming via software update on September 30.

Which iPhones Are Compatible with iOS 13?

  • The new iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max will ship with iOS 13 pre-installed. 
  • The iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, 7, 7s, 8, X, XR, XS, and XS Max will also be able to run iOS 13.

iPadOS

Available September 30

Finally there's an operating system built to work specifically with Apple's increasingly capable tablet! The new iPad operating system will be available for download on older iPads on the same day that the new iPad 7 is available in-store.

Which iPads Are Compatible with iPadOS?

  • The new iPadOS will come pre-installed on the new seventh-generation iPad 
  • Owners of the Pad Air 2 and later, all iPad Pro models, iPad 5th generation and later, and iPad mini 4 and later will be able to update to iPadoS 

watchOS 6

Available September 19

Are you excited about monitoring your hearing health, joining new research studies, and cool new watch faces? The newest version of watchOS will be available on the same day Apple releases iOS 13.

Which Apple Watches Can Run watchOS 6?

The new watchOS will come pre-installed on the Apple Watch Series 5 and be available for installation on the Apple Watch Series 3 and later on September 19. Apple will also make watchOS 6 available for the older Series 1 and 2 models later this fall.
