How to Re-enable Screenshots on Apple Watch with WatchOS 3

* This post is part of iPhone Life's Tip of the Day newsletter. . *

Before WatchOS 3, taking a screenshot on Apple Watch was done by simultaneously clicking the Side button and Digital Crown button. However, taking a screenshot on Apple Watch is off by default with WatchOS 3. This is due to the new feature that allows you to pause and resume a Workout on Apple Watch by pressing both the Side button and Digital Crown button. However, you can turn screenshots on Apple Watch back on in the Watch app. You can also change the Workout setting so that it pauses and resume automatically when you stop or start moving. Here’s how to re-enable screenshots on Apple Watch with WatchOS 3.

To Re-enable Screenshots on Apple Watch with WatchOS 3

  • Open the Watch app on iPhone.

  • Tap General.

  • Toggle on Enable Screenshots.

When you tap the Side button and Digital Crown button on Apple Watch, the screenshot will now save to your iPhone Photos app.

However, as we stated above, this means anytime you go to pause or resume a workout, you’ll also take a screenshot. If you’d rather not have that happen, you can allow Apple Watch to automatically pause your Workout when you stop moving and resume your Workout when you continue moving. To turn this feature on:

  • Open the Watch app on iPhone.

  • Under My Watch, tap Workout.

  • Toggle on Running Auto Pause.

Of course, you can leave this off and still take screenshots. Just remember that each time you go to pause or resume your Workout by clicking the Side button and Digital Crown button, you’ll also take a screenshot.
