How to Check for Interactions between Medications (iOS 16)

With iOS 16, the medication tracking function in your iPhone Health app is incredibly useful for ensuring you’re taking all of your required medications on time. It also includes medication interaction information so you can see if your medications interact with each other. Here’s how to view medication interactions in the Health app on your iPhone.

In order to use the Health app features below, you'll need to update to iOS 16 if you haven't done so already. Also, if you're new to the medication tracking features, you can learn how to add your medications in the Health app and then how to log them. Once you've successfully added your medications, here's how to check for potential negative side effects from medication interactions in the Health app.

According to Apple, "Unlisted medications are not included in potential drug interactions. Drug interactions are available only in the United States."

  1. Open the Health app and tap Browse in the lower-right corner.

    Tap Browse.
  2. Select Medications from the list of Health categories.

    Tap Medications.
  3. Tap the medication you want to view side effects for. 

    Tap your medication.
  4. Scroll down and tap Drug Interactions.

    Scroll down, and tap Drug Interactions.
  5. Here you can see what kind of interactions your medication will have with each other, along with other substances. If there are any interactions, they will be listed under either Critical, Serious, or Moderate. Tap one to see more information.

You can also use the Health app to learn more about your medications!

Now each time you add a new medication to your list, you’ll be able to easily view medication interactions and potential negative side effects. While this new medication interaction feature does NOT replace your doctor, it can certainly help to act as an additional safety measure.
