How to Turn off Landscape Mode on iPhone 7 Plus

When you tilt your screen on iPhone, it automatically rotates. This is helpful in many different scenarios; but on iPhone Plus models, a horizontally rotated phone makes certain stock apps look slightly different—this is called Landscape mode on iPhone. The larger screen on the iPhone Plus models is used to present more information in split screen format. When your iPhone 6, 6s, 7, or 8 Plus is held horizontally, your iPhone is in Landscape mode. Some iPhone Plus users appreciate the split screen Landscape mode, especially in apps like Mail, where they can simultaneously view their inbox and a specific email. However, there are plenty of iPhone 7 Plus or iPhone 8 Plus users who would rather just turn off auto rotate on iPhone or Landscape mode entirely. We’ll show you what Landscape mode looks like in different apps below with horizontal iPhone screenshots from the iPhone 7 Plus. Then we’ll get to how to turn off auto rotate on iPhone in case you decide Landscape mode is not your style. Home Screen

How to Turn off iPhone Auto Screen Rotation:

To stop Home screen rotation on your iPhone, you'll need to turn on iPhone Portrait orientation lock.

  • Open Control Center by swiping up from the bottom of your Home screen
  • Tap the Portrait lock icon in the top right corner.
  • iPhone auto rotate is now turned off and your iPhone screen will now longer rotate when you turn your iPhone sideways.
  • To turn off iPhone Portrait orientation lock on iPhone, simply tap the lock icon again.

How to Only Turn off iPhone Split Screen in Landscape Mode:

This will allow you to continue using your iPhone in Landscape mode without the Split Screen view.

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Tap Display & Brightness.
  • Under Display Zoom, tap View.
  • By default, your iPhone is set to standard, which is what allows your iPhone Plus to switch between portrait and Landscape mode.
  • To turn off Landscape mode, tap Zoomed. Everything on iPhone will appear larger and this will prevent the Split Screen in Landscape mode from working.
  • Tap Set in the top right corner. Your iPhone will restart to make the change.

Your iPhone will no longer have a split screen when in landscape mode; instead, the email, Note, or other item will take up the whole screen:
