Reading List: How to Save Articles to Read Later in Safari on the iPhone (iOS 14)

Sometimes you don't have enough time to finish reading an article, so you need to save it for later. Simply add the article to the Reading List on your iPhone—we'll show you how.

Sometimes while I’m browsing the internet, I’ll run across an article I’d love to show my husband; or sometimes I’ll find one I want to read, but I just don’t have time at the moment. With Apple’s Reading List, you can save any article from the web and go back and read it at any time. Here’s how to save articles to read later in Safari on iPhone.

How to Save Articles to Read Later in Safari on iPhone

Adding an article to your Reading List will keep it accessible to you in Safari on your iPhone. Adding a new article to your Reading List is easy. Here's how:

  1. Once you find an article you want to save, tap the Share button on the bottom of your screen.
  2. Tap on Add to Reading List.

How to Access Your Reading List in Safari

Once you've saved articles to your Reading List, you'll want to know how to access your Reading List when you're ready to read an item you've saved there. Follow these steps to find saved articles in your Reading List:

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Tap on the Bookmarks icon on the bottom of your screen, which looks like an open book.

  3. Then tap on the reading glasses icon at the top of the screen. Here you will find all the articles you’ve saved from the web. Just tap on the one you want to read and Safari will navigate to the page.

How to Delete, Mark as Read, or Mark as Unread in Reading List

Once you're done reading an article in your Reading List you can keep it saved or you can delete it. Here's how to remove an article from your Reading List in Safari, or mark is as read or unread instead:

  1.  Open Safari.
  2. Tap on the Bookmarks icon on the bottom of your screen, which looks like an open book.

  3. Then tap on the reading glasses icon at the top of the screen. Here you will find all the articles you’ve saved from the web.

  4. Swipe left on the article you wish to remove, and tap Delete

  5. If you'd rather save the article but mark it as either read or unread, swipe right and tap on Mark Read or Mark Unread, depending on which option is available.

  6. To hide read articles, you would just tap Show Unread at the bottom of the screen to filter out read articles.
  7. To see both read articles and unread articles, tap Show All in the bottom of the screen.
