How to Add Another User to Your Apple HomePod

As part of the Apple home automation wave, the HomePod is a fun way to use Apple HomeKit accessories. The smart speaker connects to other iOS devices and can access Siri for voice commands, responding to questions, or playing music. If you want to let family members or friends use the HomePod to do things like turn lights on and off and adjust the thermostat in your house, you can give access via the HomePod. Here's how to add another user to the Apple HomePod.

  • First, tap on the Home app.
  • In the upper left corner, tap on the house icon.
  • Under People, you'll see your user name and the Invite option. Tap Invite.
  • Type the Apple ID of the person you want to add. Then tap Send Invite. NOTE: Both you and the other person must be updated to the latest iOS. Both must also be signed into iCloud and the Home's iCloud settings must also be on.
  • The other person must accept the invite on their device. When they do, you'll see their username next to yours under People. Tap their username and then tap Allow Remote Access. You can also choose Allow Editing if you want to allow them permission to change your smart home settings. 
  • Now they can connect to your HomePod!
  • You can easily remove someone from having access to your Home on this same screen. Tap Remove Person, confirm, and they won't be able to connect to your HomePod.
