How to Access Flashlight & Camera from Lock Screen on iPhone XS

While older models of iPhone had you swipe left on the Lock screen to open the iPhone Camera, things changed when Apple got rid of the Home button. When looking at the Lock screen on your iPhone XS, you’ll see two icons on either side near the bottom: a camera and a flashlight. Having quick access to the Camera app and Flashlight on your iPhone XS is a great feature that utilizes some of your extra screen space. But how do you open the Camera app or turn on the flashlight from Lock screen? Your instinct may be to tap each icon, but you’ll need to make it a 3D Touch. Here’s how to access the flashlight and camera from the Lock screen on your iPhone XS.

How to Access Flashlight & Camera from Lock Screen on iPhone XS

  • Wake your iPhone up; on Lock screen, locate the camera and flashlight icons near the bottom of the screen.
  • 3D Touch an icon to access it. Simply firmly press the camera icon to open the Camera app or firmly press the flashlight icon to turn on the built-in flashlight.

That’s it! When you’re done using the Camera app, you can either swipe up to return to the Lock screen or the Home screen; or click the Side button to lock your phone. When you’re done using the flashlight, 3D Touch the flashlight icon again to turn it off.
