How to Type on Apple TV Using Your iPhone or iPad

Being able to use your iPhone or iPad as a remote for your Apple TV is a fantastic feature, especially since the included remotes are easily lost. Using Siri to type on Apple TV (Gen 4) isn’t perfect, which makes using your iPhone or iPad to type on Apple TV the quickest way to type anything on Apple TV. Forget sliding across or spelling out each letter of a strangely spelled word to Siri, just use the Remote app on iPhone or iPad to make it easy. Here’s how to use your iPhone or iPad to type on Apple TV.

How to Type on Apple TV Using Your iPhone or iPad

  • Visit the App Store on your iPhone or iPad, and download the Remote app by Apple.

  • Open the Remote app. Your Apple TV should appear; tap on it.

  • A code will appear on your Apple TV. Enter it in the spaces that appear on your iPhone.

  • If the codes match, your iPhone will pair with your Apple TV.

  • Now let’s say you go to the App Store, and you want to search for an app. Use your iPhone to navigate to search just like you would the Apple TV (Gen 4) remote.

  • When you go to select a letter, a place to type and your iPhone keyboard will appear on your iPhone or iPad screen. Use your device’s keyboard to type your query.

  • Tap Go.

  • It will return to the regular remote screen and you can continue navigating as usual.
