How to Filter Messages in the Mail App with iOS 10

The Mail app, with iOS 10 on iPhone, allows you to set specific filters that can be applied with a single tap. This filter icon is found in the bottom left corner of the Mail app in iOS 10; when you tap the icon you can easily turn the filter on or off. However, this filter within Mail is also customizable. By default, it filters by Unread mail. However, if you click on Unread you can customize the filter to your preferred view. Here’s how to filter messages in the Mail app with iOS 10 on iPhone.

How to Filter Messages in the Mail App

  • Open the Mail app.

  • Tap the Filter icon at the bottom left corner of the screen.

  • At the bottom center, it will say Filtered by: Unread. Tap Unread.

  • Here, you can made your changes to the filter.

  • You can choose to include mail from one or all of your emails (ex: Yahoo, Gmail, etc.).

  • You can choose to see only Unread or Flagged emails.

  • You can filter only emails sent directly to you or that you’re CC’d on.

  • And, you can choose to see Only Mail with Attachments and/or mail Only from VIP.

  • Once you’ve made the changes you want, tap Done.
