Star Walk ™ 2 - Guide to the Night Sky ($2.99)

The second version of the popular app, Star Walk 2 expands upon the original with 3D models of constellations, handcrafted artwork for constellations, and a simpler interface. Adults and kids alike will enjoy the app; it’s a lot of fun to hold up your phone and learn more about the stars and planets you can see in the sky.

Grammar Pop ($1.99)

Match words with parts of speech to pop clouds in Grammar Pop. Another app that’s great for kids and adults, the game makes it easy and fun to brush up on your grammar skills. The app was created by trusted grammar authority Grammar Girl, who has appeared on the Oprah Show and won awards such as Best Websites for Writers.

Duolingo (Free)

Duolingo is known for having a huge variety of apps to learn for free. You likely won’t become proficient in a language just with the app, but it’s a great introduction and basis for the continuation of learning languages. The app’s design is clean and easy to use, making it great for all ages to dabble in other languages.

Stack the States ($1.99)

This game may be designed for 9-11 year olds, but I could use a brush up on my state geography as well. I distinctly remember failing the American States test in 5th grade; if I’d had this app, maybe I would have passed. The app features five different games in one to teach you varying information about the states. The company also made a follow-up app for Stacking the Countries ($1.99).

Yousician (Free)

Learn Piano, Guitar, and Ukulele with this free app. Yousician is a personal music tutor that goes at your own pace with step-by-step tutorials to lead you through each lesson. The app listens to you play, provides feedback, and takes you through songs and lessons suited to your playing level.
