How to Subscribe to Publications in Apple News with iOS 10 on the iPhone

Starting with iOS 10 on the iPhone, you can subscribe to Publications within Apple News. For example, The Wall Street Journal has a premium subscription only members can view. With iOS 10, you can subscribe to that publication right from within the News app. If you already have a subscription to a publication outside of Apple News, you can log in to that subscription to view that publication’s news in the News app. When this feature was first launched, only a handful of publications took advantage of the option. But I imagine you’ll see it more and more. Here’s how to subscribe to publications in Apple News.

How to Subscribe to Publications in Apple News

  • Open the News app.

  • When you come across a story that requires a subscription you don’t have, you’ll see the orange text below the publication name that says Subscription. Tap on one of those stories to sign up.

  • If you’re already a subscriber, tap Already a Subscriber and log in.

  • Otherwise, tap Subscribe Now.

  • On the Subscribe Now screen, tap the type of subscription or time length of a subscription that you want to sign up for. This subscription will automatically renew unless turned off within Settings.

  • If prompted, enter your Apple ID and password.

  • Confirm your subscription.

  • You may be asked to provide additional optional information or to share your information with the publication in order to receive web access. Choose Share or No Thanks.

  • You’re subscribed! You can now read the subscription article you tapped on. You’ll also see your subscriptions at the top within the Favorites tab of Apple News. It will also appear in the For You tab.

Lots of Apple News subscriptions offer a free one-month trial. Just remember, if you decide you don’t want to pay for access to that publication, be sure to visit your settings to turn off auto-renew.
