Review: Asobu Bluetooth Water Bottle Speaker

These days, a water bottle is not just a common accessory, it's a fashion statement. But why spend more on a water bottle than you'd spend on an iPhone case if all it does is hold water? The folks at Asobu came up with the BT60 Wireless Beat Bottle ($34.99) that does something more. The "Beat" refers to that extra feature; the water bottle comes with a Bluetooth speaker built-in to the cap!

As a bottle, the Wireless Beat Bottle has some good features. It holds 17 ounces of hot or cold drinks and maintains the temperature thanks to the double wall vacuum insulation design. It is sold in multiple color choices, namely white, black, teal, or burgundy. The exterior is rubber, which helps with grip. The top is a wide open design, which allows for inserting ice cubes, but it's not ideal for drinking if you prefer a spout or anti-spill lid. You can't throw it in the dishwasher, but you can hand wash it thanks to the rubber flap that protects the microUSB port used to charge the speaker.

I was pleasantly surprised how well the speaker sounded, both when on the bottle and standalone. It's not going to replace a boom box but it is a useful and fun way to share your sounds with a group. Note that aside from the power button, there are no other buttons so you will have to control volume and playback from your iPhone.

Pros

  • 17 oz vacuum Insulated bottle
  • Multiple color choices
  • Bluetooth speaker built-in to bottle cap
  • Rubbery exterior
  • Surprisingly loud speaker

Cons

  • Need to hand wash
  • Uses microUSB to charge, not Lightning or USB-C
  • Open top not ideal for drinking

Final Verdict

The BT60 Wireless Beat Bottle from Asobu delivers two useful features in one reasonably priced gadget.
