If you are an iPhone owner who did not take advantage of Apple's $29 battery replacement program for the iPhone which ended on December 31, 2018, fear not! The $29.99 do-it-yourself battery replacement kits from iFixIt are here to save the day and will remain at the discounted price through the end of 2019. Announced by iFixIt at the end of January, the extension to the lowered price for its do-it-yourself battery replacement kits was its own response to Apple's discounted battery replacement program, which itself was announced in the latter part of December 2017 and was the tech company's answer to its debacle over performance throttling of older iPhone models.

Owners of affected older iPhone models ranging from the 6, 6s, 7, and its Plus versions, to the SE only have the option currently offered by Apple, which is either a $49 or $69 battery replacement depending on one's iPhone model. (See this support page for more information on battery replacement of your specific device and service directly through Apple.)

iFixIt battery replacement kits ($29.99) are available for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus going back to the iPhone 4s. iFixIt notes that the 4S, 5, 5s, and 5c models were not included as part of Apple's discounted $29 battery replacement program for the iPhone. The do-it-yourself battery replacement kits from iFixIt come with everything you need to perform the battery swap yourself including a custom driver, steel bits, tools for opening, ESD-safe tweezers, and of course, an OEM brand new battery that is backed by a one-year warranty.
