The Magical Way To Move Files From Desktop to iDevices

image

So there I was, in my real estate office gleefully gazing at a new 21 inch iMac. Just below my desk was a 6 year old IBM box that had served it's purpose......problem was all my pictures were on that machine and I wanted them on my new best friend. Since I already knew that the IBM box wouldn't play nice with my iMac, I could have moved them via CD or external hard drive or flash drive......or by dropping them into a folder......and that's just what I did. I dropped them into Dropbox on the PC and then opened Dropbox on my iMac and voila! No cables, no problems.

Review: The Hero from Chillingo

image

The first time I played The Hero I didn’t quite get it.  The character seemed like a cheap knock-off of Mr. Incredible, and I wasn’t overly impressed by the fact that you could fly around and bash things.  I mean let’s face it, those are pretty base level when it comes to superhero powers.  I quit after the first level, and didn’t look back for a long time.  Now that the first major update is out I’ve picked up the title again, and it’s actually quite fun.  I don’t know how much is new and how much was already there, but I like what I see.  It turns out there’s room for this Hero on my device after all.

Top Gun 2 app coming soon...!

image

Don't have the details on this new Top Gun 2 game coming out, except some screens. I have the current Top Gun title (which broke when I performed the iOS 4 upgrade). Not really a flying challenge, but more of an avoidance game--still, TG has cool backing music, 3-D effects and decent action (not to mention the same snarky macho crewmen from the flick). TG was fixed in a recent update, and you can also now add an afterburner control, which is pretty darn cool. Hopefully the new game will be more of a fighter sim, but either way, I'm excited (I don't get out much)!

Free City Story App Released!

image

Described as a cross between SimCIty and Farmville, this simulation game (called City Story) is currently at the price of FREE in the app store, so go grab it! With the added wrinkle that you can also invite Facebook pals to join you as neighbors in the game (whatever that means), might be interesting. Requires a network connection to play. When I get some time, will try to swing back and do a review. App store link above...enjoy!

Whistle Phone Updated

image

The Whistle VOIP app recently received an upgrade. If you are a current customer, you would have received that same email also. What I like about this app is that it's Free to call anywhere in the continental US. So what if you have to wait 10-15 seconds after listening to an ad before your call is connected (That is how is stays free). While, I do not use it every day, it does come in handy, especially when I can save a few bucks on a long distance call or use it as a back up service.

One of their newest updated features, for a Limited Time though, is to use as many pushes as you want.

Get ready for iSchool

Though Apple designed the iPhone, iPod and iPad to be very user friendly and intuitive devices, they do take some adjusting to especially as they move further into roles computers have held - email, word processing, spread sheet, powerpoint, etc and are becoming more common in business, and educational functions.

It's happening in Freeport Maine!

image

I should have seen this one coming, Freeport (free) is an app designed around good eating, shopping and fun in Freeport, Maine.  This is a good first attempt by the Freeport Merchants Association at touting a variety of attractions in Freeport using a smartphone app.

Looking for a Home?

image

With back to school just around the corner, real estate sales will be experiencing an uptick. Maybe it's because vacations have come to an end, but historically sales pick up in the fall. Realtor.com is the most used site for searching and researching homes for sale, and has just updated their iPhone app.

Everything iPhone - Apps, Accessories, Reviews, Wallpapers etc | iPhone Life Magazine

The iPhone has become a benchmark for all other smartphones to compete with.  Reviews on the cases, accessories, apps, wallpapers and more are located below.  Here are a couple of Articles that showcase what we have to offer.  For eaxample, iPhone 4S by Alex Cequea (iPhone Life Magazine Editor in Chief).

In that article, Alex says that the iPhone 4S has the exact same physical form factor as the iPhone 4. However, the insides are a whole different story, and Apple tried to make that very clear. The most notable improvements are the 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, the A5 dual-core processor (same as the iPad 2), and an improved battery life (8 hours of 3G talk time, 200 hours of standby). As far as the capabilities, the new Siri Assistant feature was the highlight of the show. The Siri Assistant recognizes natural language and can answer questions such as, "What's the temperature out today?" Combined with the phone's GPS, you can say something like, "Remind me to call my wife when I get to work." The Assistant will not only know who your "wife" is, it'll also know where "work" is and pop up a reminder to "call Marcy" when you get there."

Here's another great article, The Best iPhone 4 Cases. This article goes on to explain that like its iPhone predecessors, cases have become one of the most popular ways to accessorize your cell phone. Most cell phone consumers buy a case bundled with their new phone to protect it from day one. And who can blame them? Mobile devices have become hugely valuable and expensive items; you want to protect them the best way you can. There are literally hundreds of cases on the market. Let's examine the different options available on the market to help you choose the one that's right for you.

What to know how to create your own app?  "The first step in creating an app is to understand what you want to create and how you will measure its success. Make sure the idea is well vetted and there is a solid business case behind it. There are roughly 600 new apps submitted to Apple each day—what is going to differentiate your app from the thousands that are already available and being launched each week? Here are some questions you’ll want to ask when getting your app idea..."
