Review: ZAGGaquabuds

image

One of the things I like to use my devices for is music and movies. I don’t usually watch movies unless I’m traveling, but I do listen to music more frequently. I prefer to use my Bluetooth headset when I am walking or doing yard work. I do occasionally use wired headset in these circumstances, but most of the time use the wired sets when I am stationary.

I tried the ZAGGaquabuds while I was on vacation, mostly in the airport and on the plane.

Review: Dead Space by Electronic Arts

image

I was planning on passing this game by, because I’m not a fan of first / third person shooters.  With the way everyone was raving about it, however, I figured I wouldn’t be much of a reviewer if I didn’t check it out.  Turns out it was a wise decision on my part.  I’m still not planning on jumping up and down for joy the next time a big FPS gets released, but this particular outing has been well worth my while.  Much like Half Life for the PC, Dead Space proves that an interesting story can turn an FPS into much more than a “run and blast” experience.  The horror element of the whole thing doesn’t hurt, either.

Apps at 99 cents for Can Knockdown 2 launch!

image

This is to announce that Infinite Dreams has slashed app prices to 99 cents (for 1 day only) in celebration of the eminent launch of Can Knockdown 2 tomorrow (Mar 1, 2011). I haven't completed a full review, but the game is well-done. Read on for the full list of ID games on sale and my mini-review below. CK2 provides an array of target types (some moving, some not). You knock them down with the appropriate finger swipe, which requires accurate direction and amplitude...

Tiny Wings ousts Angry Birds from Top Paid App Chart

image

Tiny Wings has just ousted Angry Birds from top spot on the Top Paid App chart!

Released on Feb 18th(yes, just over a week ago) by hitherto unknown game developer Andreas Illiger, it has quickly gained popularity on the back of very little marketing effort. I was initially a little sceptical because the game icon wasn’t very slick.

'Tiny WIngs' Steals 'Angry Birds' Crown as #1 Paid App

image

In a quick ascension to #1, Tiny Wings took the top paid iPhone app spot away from Angry Birds last week. Tiny Wings was released within the last several weeks, and has quickly been gaining momentum since its launch! Why has this game become so popular?

Tiny Wings is a simple, elegant and completely addicting game that feeds on many similar aspects to its comepitor, it even uses birds...

TeamViewer - Remote Desktop for everything!

image

If you are looking for a secure, very easy to configure and use, remote desktop app (and I am happy to report it works well with Linux), check out TeamViewer. If you don't mind the app reminding you to upgrade it--and the lack of a few features--it is completely free. You can grab everything you need here (DLs available for Mac, PC, and Linux), and the app store link above. The config for Ubuntu geeks is pretty simple (download the debian package, run the desktop app, and perform similar actions on iPhone to connect).

This and That

image

I went to Florida for a week so I am catching up on things. Here are some misc thoughts from my trip and email catch-up.

My iOS Gear I took was fairly light. I brought my iPad as well as the GNS GPS receiver I just reviewed. I used my dedicated TomTom car unit but brought the GNS as backup. TomTom stayed in the rental car pretty much the whole time. (I did not want to leave the iPad in the car.)

I debated on bringing a keyboard with me for the iPad. I ended up not and I did not regret it at once. I used the iPad heavily at the airport and on the plane. During the week, I was busy enjoying the various amusement parks in Orlando and trying to get a sun tan.  I would have used it more during the week when I was at the place we stayed but there was no internet service.

Updated RedEye Mini App

image

Last Year I reviewed the RedEye Mini from Thinkflood. There was also a manufacturing recall of the unit shortly after that as well but I never heard any updates directly since. I am assuming they got everything all straightened out as they have released an updated app for it.

Part of the press release is as follows:

"ThinkFlood has released a new dedicated application for their popular RedEye mini device today.

More press details follow (or just click on the embedded video)... "iPhone’s Tilt to Live, an accelerometer-based shooter enjoyed by over half a million users, came down with a serious case of the cooperatives yesterday evening. Big Hit Baseball: iPhone Game Strikes Out

image

Big Hit Baseball, developed by Denki Games Limited, published by Square Enix Limited, and sold by Eidos Interactive sounds like a game that iPhone users needed.  This simple tap n’ swipe baseball game is reminiscent of handheld stand alone video games or arcade games of the 80s.  It seems like the perfect choice for a simple iPhone game app.

Everything iPhone - Apps, Accessories, Reviews, Wallpapers etc | iPhone Life Magazine

The iPhone has become a benchmark for all other smartphones to compete with.  Reviews on the cases, accessories, apps, wallpapers and more are located below.  Here are a couple of Articles that showcase what we have to offer.  For eaxample, iPhone 4S by Alex Cequea (iPhone Life Magazine Editor in Chief).

In that article, Alex says that the iPhone 4S has the exact same physical form factor as the iPhone 4. However, the insides are a whole different story, and Apple tried to make that very clear. The most notable improvements are the 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, the A5 dual-core processor (same as the iPad 2), and an improved battery life (8 hours of 3G talk time, 200 hours of standby). As far as the capabilities, the new Siri Assistant feature was the highlight of the show. The Siri Assistant recognizes natural language and can answer questions such as, "What's the temperature out today?" Combined with the phone's GPS, you can say something like, "Remind me to call my wife when I get to work." The Assistant will not only know who your "wife" is, it'll also know where "work" is and pop up a reminder to "call Marcy" when you get there."

Here's another great article, The Best iPhone 4 Cases. This article goes on to explain that like its iPhone predecessors, cases have become one of the most popular ways to accessorize your cell phone. Most cell phone consumers buy a case bundled with their new phone to protect it from day one. And who can blame them? Mobile devices have become hugely valuable and expensive items; you want to protect them the best way you can. There are literally hundreds of cases on the market. Let's examine the different options available on the market to help you choose the one that's right for you.

What to know how to create your own app?  "The first step in creating an app is to understand what you want to create and how you will measure its success. Make sure the idea is well vetted and there is a solid business case behind it. There are roughly 600 new apps submitted to Apple each day—what is going to differentiate your app from the thousands that are already available and being launched each week? Here are some questions you’ll want to ask when getting your app idea..."
