Tap Disc on the App Store!

I will eventually get around to checking it out, but if you are into addictive, simple time-killers, Tap Disk looks like it might be a good one. Tap to collect flying disks and collect points and power-ups...Looks fun!

New York Times reports that Verizon iPhone is coming

First you hear rumors of a Verizon iPhone, then you hear that the rumors were unfounded. And now it's cropping up again — but this time the New York Times is reporting it. So it must be true, right? The Times says that an anonymous source (of course) who's in direct contact with Apple said that Verizon will begin selling the phone early next year. The article says that Apple really doesn't have a choice: it needs to sign up other carriers because the competing Android platform is gaining so much momentum. Anyway, I hope they're right, because in this corner of Southeastern Iowa we're stuck with pokey Edge speeds, and Verizon not only has 3G here but also much better coverage.

Trident releases the Kraken iPhone case

image

I am always on the lookout for the perfect case, and depending on the day's events, I might swap cases once or more during the day.  For example, this week I chaperoned for my daughter's Field Trip.  This was no visit to a quiet, cozy museum but rather an outdoor hike and 'Stream Study', in a muddy park.  And it was raining.  Fortunately, I had the Kraken case from Trident ($34.95).  While the Kraken is not billed as being waterproof, the case has rubber flaps that cover the various openings such as the dock connector and audio jack.  The camera and front glass are covered by clear durable film as well, making it dust resistant.

Here is something that was announced not too long ago by Moleskine that's very interesting. They are making folios that combine the iPad or Iphone with their paper pages.

PDF Reader News & Updates

image

This is an update to my previous all-in-one PDF iPhone / iPad reader roundup published HERE.

I haven't elaborated on some subjects in the original article. Let's take a closer look at them.

1.) JPEG2000 images embedded in PDF files with aren't supported – they simply aren't shown.

To quickly fix this issue, before transferring the file to your iOS device, just open it in OS X's Preview and select File / Save As.

An example of this showing the page of Building iPhone OS Accessories Devices by Apress with the missing images (click the images for the full-sized version of much better quality):

Review: Pig Shot by Nexx Studio

image

Not too long ago I previewed this fun new casual game called Pig Shot.  Well, now it’s in the App Store for you to purchase so I thought I’d give it a more thorough review.  Of course, the irony is that the game is rather simple (hence the term “casual”), and I really kind of covered it all in my preview, at least in a nutshell.  Still, I’m sure I can find a few more words to say about it, so here’s my look at the game Pig Shot.

XtremeMac Does it Again!

XtremeMac comes through for me every time! I just received two new iPhone 4 cases to try out: the XtremeMac Tuffwrap and XtremeMac Tuffwrap Tatu.

I like my iPhone cases to be protective, but slim. I also like to show my personality with color and design. The XtremeMac line of cases does all of this.

Everything iPhone - Apps, Accessories, Reviews, Wallpapers etc | iPhone Life Magazine

The iPhone has become a benchmark for all other smartphones to compete with.  Reviews on the cases, accessories, apps, wallpapers and more are located below.  Here are a couple of Articles that showcase what we have to offer.  For eaxample, iPhone 4S by Alex Cequea (iPhone Life Magazine Editor in Chief).

In that article, Alex says that the iPhone 4S has the exact same physical form factor as the iPhone 4. However, the insides are a whole different story, and Apple tried to make that very clear. The most notable improvements are the 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, the A5 dual-core processor (same as the iPad 2), and an improved battery life (8 hours of 3G talk time, 200 hours of standby). As far as the capabilities, the new Siri Assistant feature was the highlight of the show. The Siri Assistant recognizes natural language and can answer questions such as, "What's the temperature out today?" Combined with the phone's GPS, you can say something like, "Remind me to call my wife when I get to work." The Assistant will not only know who your "wife" is, it'll also know where "work" is and pop up a reminder to "call Marcy" when you get there."

Here's another great article, The Best iPhone 4 Cases. This article goes on to explain that like its iPhone predecessors, cases have become one of the most popular ways to accessorize your cell phone. Most cell phone consumers buy a case bundled with their new phone to protect it from day one. And who can blame them? Mobile devices have become hugely valuable and expensive items; you want to protect them the best way you can. There are literally hundreds of cases on the market. Let's examine the different options available on the market to help you choose the one that's right for you.

What to know how to create your own app?  "The first step in creating an app is to understand what you want to create and how you will measure its success. Make sure the idea is well vetted and there is a solid business case behind it. There are roughly 600 new apps submitted to Apple each day—what is going to differentiate your app from the thousands that are already available and being launched each week? Here are some questions you’ll want to ask when getting your app idea..."
