Google Earth for the iPhone is out.. And its almost fully cool

I was pretty excited when I heard this was out.  I downloaded, started exploring and … its ok.

The functionality of streaming images, rotation and site marks are there, all very cool, but no buildings!  That has always been my favorite part of google earth. Topo in 3D is there, but its somewhat difficult to hold the phone at just the right angle.  To tilt the ground plain, you tilt the phone.  Easy right?  Well, in theory sure, but what if I’m sitting back on the couch? Then I have to tilt beyond the acceptable angles for viewing the screen.

Don’t get me wrong, this is still a pretty fun little app to play with, but there are 3 simple things that can really make this great…

1) Buildings.  ’nuff said.

2) Trim controls for tilt or manual tilt control.

3) Airplane mode.  How cool would that be?  Esp. once buildings are back in.
