App Review - Nikki Holiday and the Pirate Star

image

Released earlier this month, Nikki Holiday and the Pirate Star is yet another point-and-click adventure game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Available for only one dollar, the application takes you through the few days leading up to main character, Nikki's, fame as a singing celebrity. There are currently a whole bunch of similar titles able to be purchased on the App Store, but this certainly takes the cake.

Despite the popularity of other games soaring high, I have to say that Nikki and the Pirate Star was undoubtedly the most amount of fun I've had with point-and-click games as such. I'm not a huge puzzle buff nor am I a fan of such titles, but this truly won over my free time over the past few days.

Sonos Play:3 Review - Unboxing and setup!

image

The Sonos Play:3 is a compact wireless speaker that packs a sonic punch, can be controlled from your iPhone/iPad or Android device, but does oh so much more! As part of a larger wireless system, you can push your fav music, internet audio streams to multiple rooms (aptly named "party mode"). In this post, I'll detail configuration and setup of the new Play:3.

Apple is now world's largest smartphone maker

image

Apple was widely scorned when they first brought out their iPhone, and critics said they'd never have much of an effect on the market. Now, four years later, they are the world's largest smartphone maker, according to an article posted today on AppleInsider. Based on figures for the second quarter, they sold 20.3 million phones compared to second place Samsung's 19.2 million. Nokia, long the leader, dropped back to third place.

App Review - Rollover

image

I love old school pinball games.  There’s just something about these vintage games that brings you back to your youth-even if you are way too young to remember these (and I’m including myself in those ranks).

Rollover contains that iconic bit of the freestanding gaming, the eternally beloved shiny metal ball.  Like any good game though, Rollover takes the best of what we loved before and adapts it to the current technology-the iPhone. The objective of rollover is to get past blocks and other objects while keeping the ball on the board and avoiding those pesky holes.  All right, so this part isn’t new, but you get the idea.

App Review - Rule the Sky

image

I don't know about any of you guys, but one of my childhood dreams was to live on a floating island in the sky. Well JCE must have read my mind or something, because now there is a new game on iOS that lets you do just that.

Review: Keystone ECO Solar / USB Power Pak

image

I have been trying out and using a product from Concord Keystone called the

ECO Solar / USB Power Pak. What intrigued me about this product was the possibility of powering up using Solar Power as an alternative energy source. How cool and useful is that?

The Power Pak is a 1500 mAH battery that is made for iPhone / iPod, or any other smaller device.

New Sonos Play:3 Wireless Speaker - Review Coming!

image

I have done a number of reviews (simply search our site for "Sonos) on the Sonos S5 wireless music system, and am also a proud owner.  I really can't rave enough about the product. It's simply the best portable home music experience I have encountered. One minor complaint I have is that the S5 is a bit bulky. Now Sonos has released a smaller speaker model dubbed the Play:3. It has all the wireless good stuff inside that the S5 has, but in a compact footprint. I'll be reviewing one soon to see how the sound stacks up, but in the meantime, you can check out the press release and some YouTube action on the Play...

What is the fastest way of putting HUGE files on your iDevice? (New file transfer benchmarks!)

UPDATE (07/23 night): I've re-run the iTunes File Sharing test with the just-released iOS5.0b4 (beta 4 of the forthcoming iOS 5) running on both iPad 1 and 2 (without jailbreaking, enabling iCloud or even installing more than one app on the devices).

Pioneer SE-CL331 Water Resistant Headphones Review

image

Summer is here in the Midwest, and it's been an especially hot week so far. Outdoor sporting activities like biking, hiking and jogging during such weather conditions produce copious quantities of sweat. And on those rare occasions when getting caught in a sudden downpour is a thankful cooling off experience (as long as your electronics are not affected as a result). These are just some of the conditions that Pioneer's SE-CL331 headset was designed to handle.

Headphonies make it fun to share tunes

image

"Awesome!" and "Adorable!" and similar pronouncements were shouted when I displayed the Headphonies® "Stryker" Portable Micro Speaker to my kids!  At first, they thought it was a cute little toy like their plethora of figurines from Disney and Hello Kitty, but when I showed them that it was a portable speaker, that actually performed a useful function, they were really into it.

Everything iPhone - Apps, Accessories, Reviews, Wallpapers etc | iPhone Life Magazine

The iPhone has become a benchmark for all other smartphones to compete with.  Reviews on the cases, accessories, apps, wallpapers and more are located below.  Here are a couple of Articles that showcase what we have to offer.  For eaxample, iPhone 4S by Alex Cequea (iPhone Life Magazine Editor in Chief).

In that article, Alex says that the iPhone 4S has the exact same physical form factor as the iPhone 4. However, the insides are a whole different story, and Apple tried to make that very clear. The most notable improvements are the 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, the A5 dual-core processor (same as the iPad 2), and an improved battery life (8 hours of 3G talk time, 200 hours of standby). As far as the capabilities, the new Siri Assistant feature was the highlight of the show. The Siri Assistant recognizes natural language and can answer questions such as, "What's the temperature out today?" Combined with the phone's GPS, you can say something like, "Remind me to call my wife when I get to work." The Assistant will not only know who your "wife" is, it'll also know where "work" is and pop up a reminder to "call Marcy" when you get there."

Here's another great article, The Best iPhone 4 Cases. This article goes on to explain that like its iPhone predecessors, cases have become one of the most popular ways to accessorize your cell phone. Most cell phone consumers buy a case bundled with their new phone to protect it from day one. And who can blame them? Mobile devices have become hugely valuable and expensive items; you want to protect them the best way you can. There are literally hundreds of cases on the market. Let's examine the different options available on the market to help you choose the one that's right for you.

What to know how to create your own app?  "The first step in creating an app is to understand what you want to create and how you will measure its success. Make sure the idea is well vetted and there is a solid business case behind it. There are roughly 600 new apps submitted to Apple each day—what is going to differentiate your app from the thousands that are already available and being launched each week? Here are some questions you’ll want to ask when getting your app idea..."
