Breath=Battery Power? An Innovative iPhone Charger Concept

image

Yesterday I came across an article on the Huffington Post about a device (still in conceptual form) that charges your iPhone by converting your breath into electrical energy. Theoretically, it would allow you to charge your iPhone while sleeping, running, or performing any other act of breathing. The only catch? You have to wear this Storm Trooper-esque mask (shown at right).

Free CW Network app streams full episodes of primetime programs

image

This is a trend that I like: more and more programming from the networks is available online via free streaming video. Now the CW Network has joined in, offering its complete primetime slate of programs via steaming video. Their new app, The CW Network, is available for free. In addition to streaming video, it also offers clips, photos, social networking, and a schedule. CW, which launched in 2006, is a joint venture of CBS and Warner Brothers.

Survey of iPhone 4S users finds that 87% use Siri

image

The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday on a survey of iPhone 4S users that found that 87% use Siri at least once a month. However, the survey found that only about a third use Siri daily or almost daily to place phone calls, send text messages, or look up information. Those functions are also the most commonly used features of the iPhone. The survey found that few use it for scheduling meetings or playing music, with about a third of respondents never having used it for those functions.

Pocket-lint GarageBand experiment - May the Force be with you!!

image

I had to share this with the iPhoneLife group, since several of our blog team (including myself) are musicians. Seems some of the team over at Pocket-lint.com decided to attempt to recreate the music score (or part of it) from Star Wars, specifically the cantina scene track using only GarageBand on their devices in jam mode. Listening to the final result, I couldn't help but smile and think that this is exactly what Steve Jobs was going for... Of course, the rendition they created might be considered a loose interpretation, but hey, it's a jam after all! Even an experienced musician knows that the spirit of the thing is the point, not necessarily the execution. You can check it out at the link above, and get the full back story (which is also a handy startup for GB noobs). I included an embed of the final rendition below. In case anyone wants to know, Han shot first, and good for him!

InFrame Foto: Powerful Functionality, Simple Interface, Instant Art and its Free!

image

It takes a great development team to put the power of iOS to work doing something useful in a third party app.  It takes a really great dev team to create something that’s not only useful, but produces superior results.  Apparently, InFrame Foto has a really, really great dev team.

InFrame Foto is a photo editing app that shines most when it comes to creating your own personal photo collages.  Rather than being an overall photo editor, InFrame Foto focuses on being the best of the best at giving you options to create great mash-ups of your pics.

What I played this week - Action Block Buster, nulis and Motorcity!

image

I haven't done a "What I Played" column in a while, mainly due to lack of time to play much of anything. As the saying goes about all work and no play--so decided it was time to take a break and grab some new games! This week I downloaded Action Block Buster, a multi-spacial brick breaking experience; nulis, a physics game which defies description; and an exceptional rail shooter freebie from Disney called Motorcity. Read on for the full WIPTW ("What I played this week") roundup of these new games.

Rumor that iPhone 5 will have 4.6-inch display

image

If we're looking at an October launch for the iPhone 5, that means we're looking at over 6 months of rumors. Whew, how will we survive? And no doubt I'll be purveying every last one of them. Despite the huge success of the current form-factor, which has changed very little in 5 years, rumors persist that the iPhone 5 will have a larger screen.

Everything iPhone - Apps, Accessories, Reviews, Wallpapers etc | iPhone Life Magazine

The iPhone has become a benchmark for all other smartphones to compete with.  Reviews on the cases, accessories, apps, wallpapers and more are located below.  Here are a couple of Articles that showcase what we have to offer.  For eaxample, iPhone 4S by Alex Cequea (iPhone Life Magazine Editor in Chief).

In that article, Alex says that the iPhone 4S has the exact same physical form factor as the iPhone 4. However, the insides are a whole different story, and Apple tried to make that very clear. The most notable improvements are the 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, the A5 dual-core processor (same as the iPad 2), and an improved battery life (8 hours of 3G talk time, 200 hours of standby). As far as the capabilities, the new Siri Assistant feature was the highlight of the show. The Siri Assistant recognizes natural language and can answer questions such as, "What's the temperature out today?" Combined with the phone's GPS, you can say something like, "Remind me to call my wife when I get to work." The Assistant will not only know who your "wife" is, it'll also know where "work" is and pop up a reminder to "call Marcy" when you get there."

Here's another great article, The Best iPhone 4 Cases. This article goes on to explain that like its iPhone predecessors, cases have become one of the most popular ways to accessorize your cell phone. Most cell phone consumers buy a case bundled with their new phone to protect it from day one. And who can blame them? Mobile devices have become hugely valuable and expensive items; you want to protect them the best way you can. There are literally hundreds of cases on the market. Let's examine the different options available on the market to help you choose the one that's right for you.

What to know how to create your own app?  "The first step in creating an app is to understand what you want to create and how you will measure its success. Make sure the idea is well vetted and there is a solid business case behind it. There are roughly 600 new apps submitted to Apple each day—what is going to differentiate your app from the thousands that are already available and being launched each week? Here are some questions you’ll want to ask when getting your app idea..."
