Sure you can listen to the audio of a video in the background - or in a window pane

iMore.com has frontpaged a thread (it's HERE) asking about the lack of playing non-YouTube / non-podcast videos in the background; that is, only to listen to the sound but not watch the video itself.

What I played this week - Paper Monsters and Crash Bandicoot!

image

Paper Monsters is certainly one of the best platformers for iPad/iPhone I have experienced, and got it for the limited free app a day price, but it's only back up to 99 pennies today, so definitely still a steal. Everything about the game is great. Engaging levels, superior graphics, easy control, and catchy music. The overall mood is so cheerful, and uplifting, can't help but smile when you play, and the interesting backgrounds, obstacles and scenes make it that much more fun to keep playing. Grab Paper Monsters from Crescent Moon Games here, or read on for the rest of the review including a short YouTube demo video. Also, in retro gaming news, Activision dropped several of their games to the 99 cent level this weekend, so grabbed Crash Bandicoot this week too...

Another Contact App? my facecard Does it Differently

image

Okay, so it seems like there’s always some hot new way to organize your contacts popping up, and these new methods generally turn out to be so much hype.  The developers of my facecard, however, actually have a pretty novel new set up.

Review: Gravity Maze by Geemzo

image

Let’s get one thing straight right off the bat – if you don’t have much patience, don’t play this game.  For every level you breeze through (which won’t be many) there are several that will cause you to tear your hair out.  Granted you could do just enough to simply pass each level, but if you’re one of those types that like to go for the gold in every game be prepared to spend a considerable amount of time on some of these boards.  Okay, that’s it for the disclaimer.

Apple launches new "iPhone in Business" website

image

Clearly the iPad is making huge inroads in the business market. Last year Apple announced that 86 percent of Fortune 500 companies and 47 percent of Global 500 companies were testing or using the iPad. It's partly based on this growing market for the iPad that some analysts have increased their target for Apple's stock price. Also last year new survey of companies that use Microsoft Exchange servers found that Apple's iPhone has a 61 percent share among smartphones and is growing.

Dress your iPhone for success with the Creativo case from Sena

image
Sena makes some great leather cases for iPads, and I've written about them in the past, so I was excited to see their latest iPhone offering. The Creativo case doesn't disappoint. Naturally, as with all Sena cases, the leather is high quality, but at under $40, it's still affordable.

SoulMate App Review for iPhone

image

The SoulMate app is a great app for just about anyone who is sick of having to use all different apps and other communications methods to get in touch with their friends, family or significant other.  This app combines the features of things like text messaging, phone calls, email's and much more as well.  It makes it very quick and easy to get in contact with anyone.

Monster-sized mophie Powerstation now available!

image

First caught a glimpse of this, well for lack of a better description--fist-sized block of lithium-ion in a hard shell--at CES earlier this year. It can top up all your gadgets and then some with a 6000 mAh of raw power, the powerstation Pro is finally available for purchase at the spendy sum of $129.95. It not only charges fast, but can also stop a bullet (okay, I made that up). It is, however, designed to stand up to the elements including sand, dust and water. You can learn more in the included PR release and embedded YT vid after the break...

Making the stock Videos application play every MP4 file possible

image

I've dedicated several articles (latest one HERE) to converting videos into MP4 (M4V / MOV) files so that they can be played back by the H.264 decoder of even older-generation iDevices. In the current one, I elaborate on how how you can play the output files with the built-in, stock Videos application. This article also belong to my Multimedia article series, in which I plan to publish a “Streaming multimedia over your local Wi-Fi” in the next few days and, then, finally, the real Multimedia bible.

Everything iPhone - Apps, Accessories, Reviews, Wallpapers etc | iPhone Life Magazine

The iPhone has become a benchmark for all other smartphones to compete with.  Reviews on the cases, accessories, apps, wallpapers and more are located below.  Here are a couple of Articles that showcase what we have to offer.  For eaxample, iPhone 4S by Alex Cequea (iPhone Life Magazine Editor in Chief).

In that article, Alex says that the iPhone 4S has the exact same physical form factor as the iPhone 4. However, the insides are a whole different story, and Apple tried to make that very clear. The most notable improvements are the 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, the A5 dual-core processor (same as the iPad 2), and an improved battery life (8 hours of 3G talk time, 200 hours of standby). As far as the capabilities, the new Siri Assistant feature was the highlight of the show. The Siri Assistant recognizes natural language and can answer questions such as, "What's the temperature out today?" Combined with the phone's GPS, you can say something like, "Remind me to call my wife when I get to work." The Assistant will not only know who your "wife" is, it'll also know where "work" is and pop up a reminder to "call Marcy" when you get there."

Here's another great article, The Best iPhone 4 Cases. This article goes on to explain that like its iPhone predecessors, cases have become one of the most popular ways to accessorize your cell phone. Most cell phone consumers buy a case bundled with their new phone to protect it from day one. And who can blame them? Mobile devices have become hugely valuable and expensive items; you want to protect them the best way you can. There are literally hundreds of cases on the market. Let's examine the different options available on the market to help you choose the one that's right for you.

What to know how to create your own app?  "The first step in creating an app is to understand what you want to create and how you will measure its success. Make sure the idea is well vetted and there is a solid business case behind it. There are roughly 600 new apps submitted to Apple each day—what is going to differentiate your app from the thousands that are already available and being launched each week? Here are some questions you’ll want to ask when getting your app idea..."
