Review: Youda Survivor by G5 Games

image

Well, G5 Games has done it again.  Jane’s Zoo, Supermarket Mania 2 and Jack Of All Tribes were all excellent time management games, and I expected nothing less from Youda Survivor.  The reality, though, is that at some point one of these games just isn’t going to shine like the others.  Thankfully we haven’t reached that point yet.  This game is as addictive as the rest, and it already has me anticipating the next great G5 time management wonder.

Friends Map for Facebook Review

image

This app gives you a quick and easy way to use your phone's GPS to check in on Facebook, and to find where your friends have checked in from recently as well.  It will also provide you with some useful information such as where the nearest cafe or hotel is, and quite a bit more to. The app is pretty simple to use and seems to be pretty accurate as far as where it has you check in from.  If you don't have many friends who check in from their GPS phones than there won't be much information on your map but it can still be fun and as more and more people get smart phones this will likely become even more useful.

SugarSync Review - Flexible Cloud storage for everything!

image

SugarSync is a full-featured cloud backup and file syncing service (reviewed previously in our magazine by Doug Goldring here), but you can also create and edit documents on-line, play music from your synced collection, and transfer photos via iPad or other iOS device. There are clients for iOS, Android and several other mobile OS flavors, so you can sync from just about anywhere. I was specifically interested in the ability to write articles and save pictures and research to a consolidated folder I could later access on my computer. Currently, I use Evernote for the sometimes extensive article content I compile (mostly photo/text/weblink data), but it's somewhat aggravating to reformat everything for our blog editor later, so recently have taken to simply editing blog posts in raw HTML on our site (or in Notes), which is also a pain. SugarSync didn't bring my content together exactly the way I wanted, but it is a great file sync and backup product...

iPhone 5 coming fall 2012 -- new details emerge

image

BGR claims to have a source close to the action, and that source has leaked some details about the forthcoming iPhone 5. The website says that it'll be arriving next fall, and that it will have a rubber or plastic bezel around the edges that will be similar to the bumper cases that Apple offered for the iPhone 4 to shield the antenna. The bezel will also join the front of the iPhone with a new aliminum back plate.

What I read this week - Great FREE reads available on iBooks!

image

First want to wish all of our readers a wonderful holiday and a safe and prosperous new year! For this installment of "What I ...." (yes, usually "played") instead of recent games I played, am instead focusing on some recent great reads I have found (via iBooks): Spinward Fringe, Turing Evolved, and Peace Warrior. All are excellent military sci-fi reads and free, so if SF is your thing then go grab them while they remain available gratis. If you like them as much as I did, then don't hesitate in supporting the authors, and buying the sequels or other works...

Mosy Mount Tripod Adapter Case: Review

image

Many of the iPhone tripod mounting solutions only work for the iPhone 4, and/or require the iPhone be used without a case.  This leaves the iPhone exposed to unwanted harm.  The Mosy Mount features a pocket friendly low profile design making it attractive & convenient – it’s always there when you need it, but not in the way when you don’t.

Everything iPhone - Apps, Accessories, Reviews, Wallpapers etc | iPhone Life Magazine

The iPhone has become a benchmark for all other smartphones to compete with.  Reviews on the cases, accessories, apps, wallpapers and more are located below.  Here are a couple of Articles that showcase what we have to offer.  For eaxample, iPhone 4S by Alex Cequea (iPhone Life Magazine Editor in Chief).

In that article, Alex says that the iPhone 4S has the exact same physical form factor as the iPhone 4. However, the insides are a whole different story, and Apple tried to make that very clear. The most notable improvements are the 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, the A5 dual-core processor (same as the iPad 2), and an improved battery life (8 hours of 3G talk time, 200 hours of standby). As far as the capabilities, the new Siri Assistant feature was the highlight of the show. The Siri Assistant recognizes natural language and can answer questions such as, "What's the temperature out today?" Combined with the phone's GPS, you can say something like, "Remind me to call my wife when I get to work." The Assistant will not only know who your "wife" is, it'll also know where "work" is and pop up a reminder to "call Marcy" when you get there."

Here's another great article, The Best iPhone 4 Cases. This article goes on to explain that like its iPhone predecessors, cases have become one of the most popular ways to accessorize your cell phone. Most cell phone consumers buy a case bundled with their new phone to protect it from day one. And who can blame them? Mobile devices have become hugely valuable and expensive items; you want to protect them the best way you can. There are literally hundreds of cases on the market. Let's examine the different options available on the market to help you choose the one that's right for you.

What to know how to create your own app?  "The first step in creating an app is to understand what you want to create and how you will measure its success. Make sure the idea is well vetted and there is a solid business case behind it. There are roughly 600 new apps submitted to Apple each day—what is going to differentiate your app from the thousands that are already available and being launched each week? Here are some questions you’ll want to ask when getting your app idea..."
