8 Steps to Make 2014 the Best Year Ever (With the Help of Your iPhone)

image

I love the time between Christmas and the New Year. My business is slowing down, which gives me time to think and reflect about the past and dream about the future. And to make some New Year's resolutions. Do New Year's resolutions give you a a smile because they remind you of goals achieved, or a bad taste of broken promises?

For many, I suspect it is the second. Sometimes I think having a fitness center must be the best business ever. In January half the country signs up for a one-year membership and in February the place is empty. Having clients paying for something that they do not use must be very profitable.

What is the difference between someone setting a New Year's resolution and failing to follow through and an elite athlete setting and achieving the goal to be in the 2016 Olympics? Many times a clear roadmap is missing.

In this post I want to show how you can turn your New Year's resolutions into concrete results so that 2014 will be your best year ever! As always we have the help of our iPhone.

Restaurateurs, Resolve to Be More Efficient This Year with SteadyServ

If any industry needs to be more efficient, it's the restaurant and bar business. Profit margins are tight, employee turnover is a problem, and customers can be fickle. That's why I love shows like Bar Rescue which feature new technological solutions for one of the oldest industries.

Can You Hear Me Now? (An Open Letter to Apple)

image

Dear Apple,

I don't know whether you read this blog or not, but I'm going to assume (pretend?) that you do.

First Things First

I came over from the dark side in November 2012. That was when I purchased my first Apple product: the iPhone 4S. I'd always heard how great Apple products were and so I was not surprised that the 4S lived up to all the hype from my friends and colleagues regarding your products.

With the 4S, I immediately became an Apple fan. I began to follow what others wrote about you and your products. In the spring of 2013, I got excited about the iOS 7 rumors and was thrilled after the announcement when most of the rumors came true. I love almost everything about iOS 7.

Then you went ahead and released the iPhone 5s and 5c. I was so stoked.

The day before Christmas 2013, I upgraded my 4S to the 5s (and gave my 4S to my wife, converting her to Apple too!)

But, Apple, We Have a Problem

Choice is the Ultimate Luxury and Piel Frama Offers Plenty

image

People want to have a personal connection with their gadgets. A unique case is one way to further personalize this relationship. But you don't have to settle for different colored plastic cases that offer little in the way of protection or luxury. I have tried cases from Piel Frama before and always came away impressed. Their latest case for my iPhone 5s is a prime example of luxury and choice.

Abducted Episode 1 in the App Store!

image

Due to other reviews and the mad holiday and CES email avalanche, I totally missed the press release on this new Sunside game (recently also "greenlit" on Steam Greenlight) called Abducted, which is a space horror RPG that uses the Radiance game engine. The first episode (of several to come) was actually released for iOS back on December 19, 2013, and the game in the US app store has been discounted to $2.99 for a limited time.

Here's Why Apple Will Introduce a New Bigger and Better iPhone in 2014.

image

It’s a matter of when not if. To me it's a foregone conclusion that the release of a larger iPhone is not far off. Granted, this might not be the kind of news you want to be reminded of just days after unboxing your shiny new iPhones; but the fact remains: the impending introduction of the new iPhone 6 or iPhone Air (or whatever it ends up being called) is literally just around the corner. For Apple to deliver this highly anticipated and widely rumored iPhone to market seems a no-brainer; all one has to do is look at the popularity of the competition’s larger-screened smartphone devices to conclude that this would be a wise and prudent business plan.

Holiday iPhone Sale Still Going on at Best Buy: iPhone 5c, free, iPhone 5s $125

image

A friend got some money for Christmas and emailed me to ask where she should go to get an iPhone. I checked and was surprised to see at least one holiday sale still going on. So if you're in the same situation, be sure to check around. As I write this on December 28, Best Buy is offering the 16 GB iPhone 5c for free and the 16GB iPhone 5s for $124.99. There's also a $75 discount on models with more storage. Of course, these offers entail committing to a two-year contract.

Everything iPhone - Apps, Accessories, Reviews, Wallpapers etc | iPhone Life Magazine

The iPhone has become a benchmark for all other smartphones to compete with.  Reviews on the cases, accessories, apps, wallpapers and more are located below.  Here are a couple of Articles that showcase what we have to offer.  For eaxample, iPhone 4S by Alex Cequea (iPhone Life Magazine Editor in Chief).

In that article, Alex says that the iPhone 4S has the exact same physical form factor as the iPhone 4. However, the insides are a whole different story, and Apple tried to make that very clear. The most notable improvements are the 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, the A5 dual-core processor (same as the iPad 2), and an improved battery life (8 hours of 3G talk time, 200 hours of standby). As far as the capabilities, the new Siri Assistant feature was the highlight of the show. The Siri Assistant recognizes natural language and can answer questions such as, "What's the temperature out today?" Combined with the phone's GPS, you can say something like, "Remind me to call my wife when I get to work." The Assistant will not only know who your "wife" is, it'll also know where "work" is and pop up a reminder to "call Marcy" when you get there."

Here's another great article, The Best iPhone 4 Cases. This article goes on to explain that like its iPhone predecessors, cases have become one of the most popular ways to accessorize your cell phone. Most cell phone consumers buy a case bundled with their new phone to protect it from day one. And who can blame them? Mobile devices have become hugely valuable and expensive items; you want to protect them the best way you can. There are literally hundreds of cases on the market. Let's examine the different options available on the market to help you choose the one that's right for you.

What to know how to create your own app?  "The first step in creating an app is to understand what you want to create and how you will measure its success. Make sure the idea is well vetted and there is a solid business case behind it. There are roughly 600 new apps submitted to Apple each day—what is going to differentiate your app from the thousands that are already available and being launched each week? Here are some questions you’ll want to ask when getting your app idea..."
