Rumor updates: longer, thinner iPhone 5, Apple television not expected in 2012

image

iLounge posted details today about the new iPhone 5 that's expected this fall, though they didn't say where they got the info. They say the iPhone will be taller, at 4 inches, and will have a new aspect ratio. In addition, they say it will have a metal back. At 7.4 millimeters thick, it will be 20% thinner than the iPhone 4S. It will use Gorilla Glass 2, which is thinner than the Gorilla Glass used in previous iPhones, yet is just as strong. The metal panel on the back will be flat, not curved. In addition, the base of the phone will have a newly designed Dock Connector, possibly with 16 pins rather than the current 30.

Kisaragi-no-Hogyoku iPhone App Review

image

The Kisaragi no Hogyoku app is more of a book than a traditional app.  The app opens up to the main menu where you can choose to start the story or learn how to interact with it.  The interaction is quite simple with regular taps and swipes to advance the story, touching the screen with two fingers to bring up the menu or three fingers to fast forward through the story.  All of these gestures are simple to use and work flawlessly for controlling the pace of the story.

Review: Frenzy Pop

image

Having grown up in the 8 and 16 bit console era, I remember when 2D platform games were all the rage.  Nowadays it seems as though even simple platforming romps need to be embellished with the latest 3D graphics in order to be accepted by the masses.  Thankfully handheld devices like smartphones have made the 2D platform game “in style” again, and games like Frenzy Pop are taking good advantage of that.  The premise is simple, the levels are challenging, and there’s no third dimension to clutter up the fun.

Apple led with 29% share of smartphone market in first quarter in U.S.

image

Apple and Samsung have been duking it out in court and in market share. And in the recently completed March quarter, Apple was the victor, according to a report today by NPD Group, with a market share of 29% and second-place Samsung coming in with 24%. But while Apple led other smartphone makers, the iOS platform still trails Android.

A case that helps more than your iPhone

I saw a beautiful iPhone case at MacWorld, and the aesthetics alone were worth the purchase price, but there's more than meets the eye. Trü Protection tells us that 15 percent of the purchase price goes to a specific charity, depending on the case design.

Review: video converter iVI (Pro) for iPads / iPhones

image

UPDATE (08/20/2012):  THIS post directly compares the remuxing speed of iVI and the, more or less (if you can live with the  nagging screen upon loading a file and the disabled batch processing) free MP4tools. Very similar results to mine (read: iVI should NOT be used for MKV remuxing).

UPDATE (08/03/2012): HERE, I've elaborated on how iVI joins MP4 (MOV / M4V) videos without (!!) transcoding them; that is, very quickly.

Everything iPhone - Apps, Accessories, Reviews, Wallpapers etc | iPhone Life Magazine

The iPhone has become a benchmark for all other smartphones to compete with.  Reviews on the cases, accessories, apps, wallpapers and more are located below.  Here are a couple of Articles that showcase what we have to offer.  For eaxample, iPhone 4S by Alex Cequea (iPhone Life Magazine Editor in Chief).

In that article, Alex says that the iPhone 4S has the exact same physical form factor as the iPhone 4. However, the insides are a whole different story, and Apple tried to make that very clear. The most notable improvements are the 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, the A5 dual-core processor (same as the iPad 2), and an improved battery life (8 hours of 3G talk time, 200 hours of standby). As far as the capabilities, the new Siri Assistant feature was the highlight of the show. The Siri Assistant recognizes natural language and can answer questions such as, "What's the temperature out today?" Combined with the phone's GPS, you can say something like, "Remind me to call my wife when I get to work." The Assistant will not only know who your "wife" is, it'll also know where "work" is and pop up a reminder to "call Marcy" when you get there."

Here's another great article, The Best iPhone 4 Cases. This article goes on to explain that like its iPhone predecessors, cases have become one of the most popular ways to accessorize your cell phone. Most cell phone consumers buy a case bundled with their new phone to protect it from day one. And who can blame them? Mobile devices have become hugely valuable and expensive items; you want to protect them the best way you can. There are literally hundreds of cases on the market. Let's examine the different options available on the market to help you choose the one that's right for you.

What to know how to create your own app?  "The first step in creating an app is to understand what you want to create and how you will measure its success. Make sure the idea is well vetted and there is a solid business case behind it. There are roughly 600 new apps submitted to Apple each day—what is going to differentiate your app from the thousands that are already available and being launched each week? Here are some questions you’ll want to ask when getting your app idea..."
