Most side scrolling shooters involve aircraft of some sort, but few are taken from the viewpoint of the “bad guys”. This is, however, the scenario of Invasion Earth: 1953, a post-Roswellian look at aliens trying to take over our beloved planet. That’s basically it for a plot, and there’s not a lot of variety to the action. What keeps drawing me back into the game however, are the (sometimes insane) goals and that need to try “just one more time” to reach them. Invasion Earth doesn’t have a lot of the bells and whistles of many of its peers, but it has a satisfyingly addictive quality about it anyway.
We all like to protect our iPhone from all the elements of life. Well now there is a case just for that called LifeProof. Now if we could buy one large enough to protect ourselves from life. LOL. I have been using this case for a couple weeks now and I'm impressed with its overall function and protection. I don't think I'll be taking calls at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean anytime soon.
There are a lot of case makers out there, but there's only one Lady Gaga. And LuxMobile has licensed her images and designs for their line of cases. No strangers to luxury licensing, LuxMobile also offers cases with Ed Hardy and other trendy designs. Since I gifted my iPhone 4 to my wife, in anticipation of my upgrade to the iPhone 4S, I had to find a more feminine-friendly case for her, and the Lady Gaga collection presented several options. My wife went with the more understated 'diamond pattern' Romance style, but true Gaga fans may want something more outlandish. No 'meat' cases currently, but you never know.
With the release of iOS 5 today, there has been some debate at my organization of which OS version we should build for in future iOS apps, iOS 4 or iOS 5. Building to accommodate multiple OS versions is more time consuming which translates to greater costs, and is not always an option. In general, we lean towards the safe side and build to accommodate more users by building for an older OS. However, this also limits what new APIs we make use of in development.
Facebender is an entertainment app where you can warp, bend, twist, and change any picture that can be uploaded. The options are vast and with additional updates; there isn’t any doubt that more features will become available. But, let’s take a minute and dissect the app to really show its capability.
Today's the day for iOS 5. It adds over 200 new features, apps, and services. You can read an in-depth review on AppleInsider. The new features include iCloud, which will automatically back up your photos and other content to the cloud, Notification Center, which does a much better job of handling push notifications, and Newsstand, an iBooks-like app that gives you access to a range of publications. AppleInsider gives you details on the new Reminders app, which finally gives iOS a to-do function.
I've collected a number of demos of Siri so you can get an idea of how well it works. First up is one from Macworld's Jason Snell. He puts Siri through its paces, showing the range of questions and requests it can understand — and examples of how it doesn't always work.
Stuff.TV also has a good demo. Siri has an answer for the question "How far away is the moon" and has no trouble with requests such as "Send an email to my mom" and "Wake me up tomorrow morning at 7 am." In this one you can also see how the background noise doesn't interfere with Siri's language understanding.
I'm convinced that Siri is the killer feature of the iPhone 4S, and David Pogue of the New York Times characterizes it as "Crazy good, transformative, category-redefining speech recognition" in his review.
The iPhone has become a benchmark for all other smartphones to compete with. Reviews on the cases, accessories, apps, wallpapers and more are located below. Here are a couple of Articles that showcase what we have to offer. For eaxample, iPhone 4S by Alex Cequea (iPhone Life Magazine Editor in Chief).
In that article, Alex says that the iPhone 4S has the exact same physical form factor as the iPhone 4. However, the insides are a whole different story, and Apple tried to make that very clear. The most notable improvements are the 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, the A5 dual-core processor (same as the iPad 2), and an improved battery life (8 hours of 3G talk time, 200 hours of standby). As far as the capabilities, the new Siri Assistant feature was the highlight of the show. The Siri Assistant recognizes natural language and can answer questions such as, "What's the temperature out today?" Combined with the phone's GPS, you can say something like, "Remind me to call my wife when I get to work." The Assistant will not only know who your "wife" is, it'll also know where "work" is and pop up a reminder to "call Marcy" when you get there."
Here's another great article, The Best iPhone 4 Cases. This article goes on to explain that like its iPhone predecessors, cases have become one of the most popular ways to accessorize your cell phone. Most cell phone consumers buy a case bundled with their new phone to protect it from day one. And who can blame them? Mobile devices have become hugely valuable and expensive items; you want to protect them the best way you can. There are literally hundreds of cases on the market. Let's examine the different options available on the market to help you choose the one that's right for you.
What to know how to create your own app? "The first step in creating an app is to understand what you want to create and how you will measure its success. Make sure the idea is well vetted and there is a solid business case behind it. There are roughly 600 new apps submitted to Apple each day—what is going to differentiate your app from the thousands that are already available and being launched each week? Here are some questions you’ll want to ask when getting your app idea..."
