Oculus Introduces Rift Virtual Reality Gaming Eyewear

image

One of the coolest things I saw at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this year was the Rift, virtual reality goggles from developers Oculus. Oculus takes the science of vision and applies it to virtual reality gaming in an arena that will be intimately familiar to any fan of iOS gaming.

RØDE iXY Review - Quality iPhone and iPod Recording Accessory

image
I often use my iPod touch for grabbing quick home recording tracks, and one of my favorite accessories used to be the Blue Mikey from Blue Microphones. But when an Apple iOS update killed analog input, my original Mikey became a thing of the past.

The RØDE iXY is a similar recording accessory, but is more specifically designed. While Blue makes great mics for music, RØDE is tailored to live broadcasting. The unique RØDE iXY can capture an outdoor live event or a basement recording jam at very high-quality sample rates!

Rumor: Forthcoming iPad Mini Retina Display said to be 'Amazing'

image

In my mind, it's not a given that the next iPad mini will have a retina display, but certainly the rumor persists. And today a Chinese website purports to have all the juice on the forthcoming device. According to Tapscape, it will likely be called "iPad mini with retina display." The screen resolution will be 2048x1536 pixels, giving it a 324ppi pixel density. The resolution is rumored to be the same as the current fourth-generation iPad.

Make yourself virtually hack proof with 1Password.

The award-winning app, 1Password has recently been updated and rewritten from the ground up, and is now a stellar universal app, running beautifully across all Apple devices. In the wake of last week’s massive breach of Twitter security, where more than a quarter of a million users' accounts were hacked, now may be the perfect time to invest in your online security. This app takes the headache out of keeping track of all of your passwords.

Review of Abyss: The Wraiths Of Eden HD by G5 Entertainment

image

When G5 released Nightmares From The Deep, I had actually started to grow weary of hidden object games. Thankfully the balanced game play, focus on adventuring aspects, and interesting story kept me captivated until the end of the game. It even convinced me to play the bonus adventure, which I had never done before. Now G5 brings us another treasure from the same developers in the form of Abyss: The Wraiths Of Eden. While I’m not quite sure if I like this one as well as Nightmares From The Deep yet, there’s no question that it shares the same high quality as the previous game. Adventure and hidden object fans should have a great time with this one as well.

Overhaul of iOS Rumored; Interface could Reflect Younger Generation

image

I read an interesting article in Wired recently about the likelihood of a major redesign of iOS, Apple's software that runs our iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches. Speculation began when Apple replaced Scott Forestall with Jony Ive to head up iOS interface design. Forestall, like Steve Jobs, loved skeuomorphic design, which harks back to real world objects of the past.

I am notoriously hard on my iDevices. I carry them with me everywhere, which includes some rough terrain and adventurous situations. Everything iPad - Apps, Accessories, Reviews, Wallpapers etc | iPhone Life Magazine

What's bigger than an iPhone, smaller than a MacBook, and the most anticipated Apple product since the original iPhone? On January 27, at a special invitation only event at the San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Steve Jobs announced Apple's new "magical, revolutionary product" -- the iPad. Meant to fill the gap between the laptop and phone, Jobs said it was "way better" than either. Let's take a look at it.

Thin, lightweight, and powerful

The iPad shares many hardware features with the iPhone, including an accelerometer, an orientation sensor to switch from portrait to landscape mode, solid-state memory, and the same 30-pin doc connector. Connectivity is also virtually the same, with wireless 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1 EDR included on all models.

iPad runs iPhone apps!

The iPad will run a version of iPhone OS, and the new device can run virtually any app developed for the iPhone or iPod touch. Aps developed for the iPhone can run on the iPad in native resolution but is large enough to touch type on.

The larger screen not only makes familiar iPhone apps like Calendar, Mail, and Safari look stunning, it also provides screen real estate for more complex elements in the UI. For example, Calendar display a split-sreen view that describes the day's appointments on the left and shows you a color map of used time slots on the right. The split-screen view in Contacts displays you contacts list on the left and the full information for the contact you've selected on the right.

An ebook reader and more

Although not build into the iPad, Apple will offer a free app called iBooks, which will allow you to download and read books from it's new virtual bookstore. The new iBooks store will be accessed from and as easy to use as iTunes.

The ultimate media device?

The iPad is not the world's first tablet PC or the first eBook reader. Toshiba, Lenovo, Acer, and others sell Windows-based tablets, and Amazon has had considerable success with it's Kindle. But Apple thinks the iPad will reinvent the category by offering a vastly superior multi-touch interface an easy access to a wide-variety of apps and media via iTunes. Aple hopes to make the iPad the ultimate media device by leveraging it's existing assets which include over 100 million paying iTunes customers, established relationships with music and video content providers, and over 100,000 iPhone OS app developers.
