iTablet Thumb Keyboard

If you ever wanted an external keyboard for your phone or tablet, the iTablet thumb keyboard is a great option. This classy thumboard will connect with any Bluetooth HID device including:

  • iPad
  • iPhone
  • PS3
  • Xbox 360
  • Windows 7 & XP
  • Android
  • Linux
  • Interactive TV (IPTV)

The iTablet is Bluetooth 2.0 and HID 1.0 profile compliant.

It features backlit keys with an on/off switch to save battery. It charges with an included mini USB cable. The Function, Alt, Ctrl, Shift work exactly like those on a regular keyboard. There are also left and right mouse button keys.

There are indicator lights for Function on, Power, Bluetooth connection, and mousepad.

Yes, it even has a mousepad on the back of the device which you can use with your finger underneath or turn it over and use it upright. I could not get the mousepad to work on my iPod 4G touch however. It worked fine with my Motorola Atrix on the Android platform.

It is very intuitive to use. Once paired, you can pretty much go to work right out of the box without any learning curve.

Handy to use, it is ergonomically designed to be held in your hands and type with your thumbs. Or, you can place it on a flat surface and type away with as many fingers as you wish. It has two pop out legs to level it on a flat surface.

It would be nice if it came with some kind of stand for a handheld device, but you can certainly get along without it. Or you can improvise one. At home, on my desk, I use a business card holder for this purpose. Once in a hotel room, after ordering a pizza, I cut one of the legs off the little plastic spacer with three legs that came in the pizza box. It worked great as a holder for my handhelds so they could stand upright while I typed on the thumboard.

I was a little disappointed that it cost so much. The current retail price is around $129,  which seems a bit costly. Perhaps shopping around and over time the price will diminish.

Conclusion

There's not much to say other than it simply works as a most welcome external keyboard to increase your productivity. I especially appreciate how it works with so many different devices and across so many platforms.

I  am pleased to give this product a high recommendation. You may not want to leave home without one. Hey, it's handy at home too.
