This is a great little story for the iPad, I really appreciated the inspiration and the creativity both in the story and the illustration. Flying Poodles, great idea!
Here' a fine little app, Dorr Lobster (free) by Mobilaurus for Dorr Lobster Company down in Milbridge, Maine. The app is really just an extension of their retail business, so no frills, but it delivers. Literally! Want some lobster? Ayuh, they have that. How bout some crab, mussel, scallop, smoked shrimp, smoked salmon, or some wicked good organic Highland Steak? Ayuh, they got that too. Actually they have more so download their app and check it out.
I like LRN the Lingo (.99), I think it does what it says in a straight forward and easy to use way.
Do you know how to play the fiddle? Want to learn... on your iPad? Smule may have outdone themselves this time with the introduction of Magic Fiddle ($2.99) because I think they've really created a new instrument, not just an electronic fiddle.
Though having studied violin for a short period in college, little skill remained, that is until I bought Magic Fiddle on a whim. I can not put it down and have been practicing constantly, even giving my family a short recital on Thanksgiving day.
How can you help your child learn the English alphabet? How do you do that and keep track of their improvement? Why don't you give Akshara (.99), by Rega Interactive a try? In the mean time, I was given a copy of the app for evaluation by the developer and will give you a run down of the features. For the past few weeks I've been using the app on an iPhone 3G running iOS4 and it has been working great, though there are some issues, I'll go over them further on.
It's official Truphone has cut rates in half to $12.95 month for it's Truphone Unlimited app http://bit.ly/bMI56K service. Basically this turns my iPad 3G/WIFI into a heavy duty business machine writing reports, scheduling, e-mail, and now very low-cost phone. I don't know how they do it, but they must have been reading Thomas Freedman and realized that the world is flat, and have passed it along to the rest of us.

Though Apple designed the iPhone, iPod and iPad to be very user friendly and intuitive devices, they do take some adjusting to especially as they move further into roles computers have held - email, word processing, spread sheet, powerpoint, etc and are becoming more common in business, and educational functions.
I should have seen this one coming, Freeport (free) is an app designed around good eating, shopping and fun in Freeport, Maine. This is a good first attempt by the Freeport Merchants Association at touting a variety of attractions in Freeport using a smartphone app.
It is official, Truphone is amazing and it's cheap, really, really cheap cell phone service!
In a world where jailbreaking and unlocking your iPhone is now a right, you would think carriers would catch on that the world is changing and they should unshackle us from those chains of service contracts for cellular and data plans.
Apple has finally hinted at a wifi fix for the iPad http://bit.ly/cvWaXd despited dragging their feet regarding it being a problem with the iPad. Currently the official fix from Apple is to basically check and reset your router... Hmmm the dozens of wireless systems I've been on over the past month can't all be set up wrong.
