How do I add an e-mail account

Add E-MailYour device lets you access all of your e-mail accounts, allowing you to send and receive messages wherever you are. There are several ways to add an e-mail account to your device. The easiest is to work with one of the five default e-mail services that your device recognizes automatically. Here's how to add one of these accounts:

  1. Open Settings> Mail, Contacts, Calendars> Add Account.
  2. Tap on the service you use (Microsoft Exchange, MobileMe, Gmail, Yahoo, or AOL).
  3. Type in your Name, Email Address, Password, and enter a description such as "Work Email" or "My Gmail Account."

You can add an e-mail account from one of the five default services with ease.

Your device will verify the account and take you to a screen where you can turn the parts of the account you want to connect to on or off. For example, after adding my Yahoo account, I had the option to turn Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Calendar on (to show up on my device) or off.

IAdd E-Mail Accountf you're adding an account that isn't one of the five your device recognizes automatically, you'll need to take slightly different steps that require more technical information about the account:

Add other e-mail accounts to your device.

  1. Open Settings> Mail, Contacts, Calendars> Add Account.
  2. Tap Other and then Add Mail Account.
  3. Type in your Name, account Address, Password, and Description. When finished, tap Next.
  4. Tap in the type of account you're adding: IMAP or POP. (Contact your network administrator if you don't have this information. They should be able to give you everything you need to set up the account.)
  5. Enter the Host Name of your provider's incoming mail server in the Incoming Mail Server section; also enter you Username and Password.
  6. Enter the Host Name of your provider's outgoing (SMTP) mail server in the Outgoing Mail Server section; also enter your Username and Password if your provider requires it.
  7. Tap on Save.
