Review: ThinCharge Battery Case Doubles Your iPhone Battery Life without the Bulk

I'm always on the lookout for a good battery-charging phone case, and I have several criteria that I look for. First, it should at least double the battery life of my iPhone, or it's not worth it. Next it should provide good protection—after all, it's a case. And ideally it should do so without adding too much bulk or cost. A bonus would be if it could use a Lightning cable instead of microUSB—it's a rare feature, but it means one less cable to carry.

ThinCharge

It looks like the ThinCharge ($44.95) battery-charging phone case from ChargeTech passes the test with flying colors. Speaking of colors, if you are okay with basic black, you can save a lot and pay just $44.95 right now. Otherwise, for $85, the company offers a metallic gold or glossy white model, in addition to the grippy, rubbery matte black version. The case doubles battery life with 2600mAh, and it is incredibly thin. The ThinCharge case puts Apple's "Camel Hump" battery case to shame!

ThinCharge

A really nice surprise is that it uses a Lightning port, on top of the case. The Lightning port is tucked away behind a rubber flap. While many (every?) competing case makers use a port on the bottom, that makes their cases taller, and you often need an adapter for the headphone jack. Not so with the ThinCase, as the bevel on all edges is quite thin, true to the name.

Pros

  • Incredibly thin battery case
  • Doubles battery life with 2600mAh
  • Charges using Lightning port on top of case
  • Three colors (black is on sale)
  • Grippy, rubbery texture

Cons

  • Rose gold would be a nice option
  • iPhone 6/6s only
  • Easy-to-lose removable top

Final Verdict

If you are looking for a battery case, the ThinCharge from ChargeTech is probably the thinnest and still offers nice features like Lightning charging, at a great price.
