This Stylish, Retro Turntable Lets You Convert Vinyl to MP3

I grew up with vinyl records, saw the move to cassettes and 8-track tapes, then CD-ROMs and eventually MP3 via Napster and the iPod all the way to streaming. But for many audiophiles, the preferred platform is still vinyl albums. In fact, records are making a comeback and outsell individual digital tracks. Fortunately, you can play new (and vintage) vinyl records on the latest technology, and especially the Mustang LP ($129.99) which ION Audio sent me to check out. I loved the sleek styling officially inspired by the classic 1965 Mustang. It's licensed by Ford and includes the Mustang logo. The radio, tuning, and volume dials look just like muscle car speedometers and gauges.

You can use the RCA jacks to connect your speaker system, or the headphone jack to listen privately, or leverage the built-in speakers. There is an AUX input line so you can plug in your iPad or iPhone (with a line out converter if needed) or even us the USB input port to play recorded MP3s. A great additional feature is the ability to record your vinyl records on to a USB device! While I love the hot rod red color, it would be nice to have other choices, like black or other classic car colors. Also, it does not have Bluetooth built in but there are so many inputs and outputs that it's not a big deal. In fact, you could connect a Bluetooth transmitter or even Echo Dot or Echo Input to make it work with Alexa.

Pros

  • Sleek styling inspired by classic 1965 Mustang
  • AM/FM plus USB and AUX input for phone or tablet
  • Built-in speakers plus headphone and RCA jacks
  • Record vinyl albums on USB
  • Tuning and volume dials

Cons

  • One color choice, hot rod red
  • No Bluetooth

Final Verdict

The Mustang LP from ION Audio looks and sounds great, and helps both car lovers and music lovers relive the 1960s.
