Review: Stylish & Functional Laptop & iPad Backpacks from Solo New York

I was in New York City during the time the PR firm for Solo New York had a pop-up store, so I had the opportunity to see an assortment of Solo's laptop backpacks and try some for an extended review. The hardest part at the pop-up store was choosing which one or ones to try, since they have so many variations and color choices. I settled on two very different bags, a purse-like design dubbed the Bridgehampton Ladies Backpack ($89.99) and a Duffel Bag Backpack hybrid style ($64.99).

They all are well-made and durable and use a nice selection of materials such as nylon and leather. Apple users will appreciate the padded compartments for iPads and MacBooks (or any laptop for that matter. 15.6" for the duffel and 13.3" for the purse style.) Despite the high quality the bags are available in reasonable price ranges. The Bridgehampton had a preppy lining that makes it look much more expensive.

In addition to the laptop compartment, the bags have quite a few more compartments; especially the duffel bag, which has several zippered areas. And while Solo bills it as a weekender, I was able to fit my luggage for the next five days, although I do pack pretty well. I also like that the duffel bag can be worn as a backpack or carried from several different handles, all well stitched and durable.

Pros

  • Well-made and durable
  • Wide assortment of styles, materials, and colors
  • Padded compartments for iPads and laptops
  • Reasonable price options
  • Tons of compartments

Cons

  • Hard to decide between models

Final Verdict

If you need a backpack for your iPad or laptop and more gear, you can't go wrong with any of the options from Solo New York.
