Review: Rowkin Micro Bluetooth Earbuds

If you're intrigued by the Apple Airpods but find them a little goofy looking, and expensive, and too white, there are the Micro Bluetooth Earbuds ($129.99) from Rowkin. Like the Apple version, these are compact individual left and right earbuds that connect via Bluetooth, include a microphone, and come in a compact charging case but unlike Apple, they do not have the odd protrusion and they are sold in black, only.

Because they are remarkably small, they are barely noticeable to others. They fit entirely in the ear, and while the batteries last 12 hours, you might find them uncomfortable to wear that long. They block out a lot of surrounding noises, which may be a little antisocial, anyway. After all, as I sit here in Starbucks writing this review, I want to be able to hear my name called when my order is ready! The sound quality was fine, although I did have to adjust them a bit to get a consistent and comfortable fit and make sure both ears were getting music.

They are quite lightweight and so is the included compact charging case. The earbuds plug in to the case which charges them, and you recharge the case using the included microUSB cable. A cool features is the voice prompts that help with pairing. In fact, I was able to connect the Rowkin Micro earbuds to both my iPhone and my MacBook Pro.

  • Remarkably small earbuds and case
  • 12-hour battery life
  • Barely noticeable to others
  • Lightweight
  • Compact charging case
  • Voice prompts
  • Supports pairing with two devices

  • One color
  • Perhaps too small?

Final Verdict

As Apple does away with the headphone jack, Bluetooth earbuds and headphones like the Rowkin Micro will become increasingly important.
