Review: Affordable Cases to Protect Your New iPhone XS, XS Max & XR

The folks at Silk recently sent me some sample iPhone X, XS, XS Max, and XR Cases ($11.99-24.99). What's more, they included prototype samples of the actual iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max, so I could test the cases with a reasonable facsimile of the new phones. That was a nice touch.

Besides looking great, the most important distinction about the Silk cases is their price. Even though you are spending $1,000 or more on your new iPhone, you may not want to spend $50 or more on a case to protect it. Heck, you might not have $50 left after spending so much on a phone! But these cases are not made cheaply. They have a variety of options, materials, functions and colors including rugged cases, slim cases, and wallet cases.

My favorites are the Wallet Slayer Vol. 2 which holds two to three credit cards (and can use a credit card as a kickstand) but doesn't add much bulk. All of Silk's iPhone cases (except the Folio Wallet) provider all-around protection, including the bottom, which is where many cases skimp.

The $19.99 Guardzila Armor case even includes a tempered glass screen protector and the $11.99 Nudist Clear case protects all around, including the bottom, proving you don't need to spend a fortune for protection.

Silk isn't just about cases. The company also makes a very useful cable accessory, dubbed the Cable Wrangler. I reviewed it here. And as affordable as its products are, you might be able to save even more if you sign up for Silk's mailing list.

Pros

  • Wide range of case types, styles, colors, and materials
  • Extremely affordable
  • Several wallet-style options

Cons

  • Might not be found in stores

Final Verdict

The only downside is, since Silk is a relatively new brand, its products might not be found in stores so you might not get to try them in person. But you won't be disappointed.
