Poor Battery Life Could Be Facebook's Fault

Apple promised that iOS 11 would bring us better battery life thanks to all kinds of optimizations being performed in the background, but if you are experiencing iPhone battery drain, there may be an answer. Users of Facebook's updated app are reporting high energy usage even when the app is in the background. The speculation is that this is based on Facebook's recent addition of videos that may be automatically playing in the background (with the audio muted) thus draining power. However, that has not been confirmed.

Techcrunch is reporting that Facebook is aware of the issue and working on it. In the meantime, if you must use Facebook, you might want to exit it by double clicking the Home button to open the app switcher, finding the offending app, and swiping up to quit it. Otherwise it continues to run in the background. You can check which app or apps are consuming the majority of your battery life, in the foreground as well as background, by running the Settings app, and selecting Battery then scrolling down for Battery Usage.
