If you store important information on your iPhone, you’ll want to prevent anyone from accessing it in the event it is lost or stolen. To do this, you’ll need to set a passcode. Once activated, you’ll have to enter the four digit code when you turn on your iPhone. Here’s how you do it:
- Tap on the Settings icon in the Home screen and select General at the bottom of the Settings screen.
- Tap on Passcode Lock and enter a four-digit passcode. (You’ll have to enter it a second time to confirm.)
- Tap on Require Passcode and specify how long your iPhone must be inactive before you’ll have to enter the passcode. (Immediately, 1, 5, 10, 15, 30 minutes, and 1 hour). Note that shorter times increase security.
