New Information Points to Unified Apple OS, Sooner Than Later

I’ve been saying this for awhile now, but the consolidation of Apple’s operating systems seems inevitable and a virtual given, despite what the tech giant may publicly claim. As mobile continues to lead the market in terms of consumer use and appreciation, the merger of the two distinct operating systems isn’t a matter of if, so much as when. Now, numerous reputable sources are suggesting that this may indeed be more fact than speculation.

Over the years the interconnectedness of iOS and macOS has only increased. Apple's macOS has begun to look and behave more and more like iOS. In fact, as the iPhone continues to change the way we expect computing to function, it only makes sense that Apple would have a vested interest in making the two systems not only play nice together, but operate in increasingly similar, intuitive ways.

The latest reports point to a not-too-distant future where developers may be able to build one app for all of Apple’s devices. This is a good thing and a natural progression of the art and technicality of iOS app design in the rapidly advancing technological evolution.

If the macOS and iOS platforms merge, it will probably be far from the dramatic development that many have expected. When you consider where technology is potentially headed, with such developments as human microchipping, cryptocurrency, and Neuralink, a merging of macOS and iOS would barely be worth mentioning, if not for the fact that Apple CEO Tim Cook has previously sworn it would never happen. Then again, it was Steve Jobs himself who infamously indicated that he’d never sanction the creation of a large- screen iPhone like the iPhone Plus and iPhone X models, saying no one would buy them. Proof positive that one should never say never.
