Microsoft Surface or iPad Pro: Which Device Will Come Out on Top?

Which Tablet Will Come Out on Top?

The iPad Pro may be driving some even bigger profits for Apple as it is predicted that when consumers are deciding whether to get the Microsoft Surface or iPad Pro, they will choose the iPad Pro. Investment bank RBC Capital Markets is predicting some heady numbers, specifically:

  • In the first three months of availability, the iPad Pro could outsell all Microsoft Surface units ever sold, at about 3 million devices.
  • The iPad Pro is believed to provide $200 of profit to Apple, resulting in $600 million in profit on $2.4 billion in sales in the first quarter.

As impressive as these numbers are, the analyst behind them calls them "conservative" as they assume a gross margin of 33 percent which is below Apple's typical 39.9 percent. This also doesn't factor in the expensive iPad Pro accessories which are bound to be attached to many iPad Pro sales. At $169 for the Smart Keyboard and $99 for the Apple Pencil, that should add nicely to Apple's bottom line.
